33 claims: 4 independent, 29 dependent

  1. 1
Claims of equivalent WO 9636163 A2 I CLAIM:1. An image processing method including statistically analyzing encoded image data to recover N-bit auxiliary data steganographically embedded therein, N being at least 2, the steganographically embedded auxiliary data taking the form of perturbations in sample values of said encoded image data, the method characterized by identifying a two-dimensional calibration pattern steganographically embedded with me auxiliary data as perturbations in said sample values, said calibration pattern having a known property, and using data obtained by said identification to aid in steganographically recovering the auxiliary data from the image data.
  2. 13
The method of any of claims 10, 11, or 12 which includes recovering the auxiliary data from said corrupted image without reference to an original image to which die encoded image corresponds.
  3. 17
An image processing method including processing input image data to produce output image data having auxiliary data embedded therein, the input and output image data each comprising a plurality of samples, each with a value, the encoding including changing at least certain of said input image sample values to steganographically encode the auxiliary data therein, the method characterized by perturbing said sample values to steganographically encode calibration data in the output image data in addition to said auxiliary data, said calibration data having known properties and providing known data useful in decoding the auxiliary data from the encoded output image, said encoded calibration data being substantially imperceptible to a human viewer of the output image.
  4. 32
In a photo-duplication kiosk that includes a lens for imaging a customer-provided original onto an opto-electronic detector, and a print-writing device for exposing and developing an emulsion substrate in accordance with image data gathered by said detector, an improvement comprising:a memory for receiving data from the opto-electronic detector;and a processor for processing data in the memory to detect the presence of certain copyright data steganographically encoded therein, and for interrupting the print-writing device in response thereto.
