  1. 1
A data processing system comprising:- processing means (101/Fig.2, 104/Fig.7) including a microprocessor unit (MPU CORE 101), a control unit (MC CORE 104) and a processor bus (153);and - at least one memory unit (MS 102) operating in synchronism with clock signals (CLK 151) generated in a clock generator (CG 103), said memory unit (MS 102) having data signal input/output means (551), a plurality of memory cells (502, 503/Fig.5A), and an address counter (504);- the said processor bus (153) couples together the said microprocessor unit, the said control unit and the said data signal input/output means (551) of said memory unit (MS 102) wherein the said processing means (101) and the said memory unit (102) are formed on a first and a second single integrated circuit chip, respectively;- the said memory unit (MS 102) has included a mode register (505) for determining an operation mode of the said memory unit (MS 102), and an internal control circuit (506) provided to enable the said memory unit (MS 102) to operate in response to a value set in the mode register (505) and to control signals supplied from outside of said memory unit (MS 102) on a control bus (156) coupled to said control unit (MC CORE 104) to generate memory-chip-internal operational control signals in synchronism with the said clock signals (CLK 151) which are also supplied in synchronism to the said processing means (101, 104), and wherein - the said control unit (104) transmits command information (/WE, /CAS, RAS0/1, /DQM) to the said internal control circuit (506) on the control bus (156), characterized in that - the said control unit transmits operation mode information to input terminals of the said memory unit (MS 102) and row and column address signals (550) to the said input terminals of the said memory unit (MS 102).
  2. 23
A single chip integrated circuit according to any one of the preceding claims 1-22, characterized in that the processing means (101/Fig.2, 104/Fig.7) of the system is manufactured as a single integrated circuit.
  3. 24
A single chip integrated circuit according to any one of the preceding claims 1-22, characterized in that the at least one memory unit (MS 102) of the system is manufactured as a single integrated circuit.
