Interchangeable postage computer module and method for data transmission

The invention relates to a replaceable postage computer module and a corresponding method for data transmission to a base unit. The replaceable postage computer module is designed as a customer-replaceable postage fee and calculation module which can be plugged into or into a base unit. It has an internal processing unit and a nonvolatile memory for the calculation program and for postage fee schedule data and is programmed to:Supplying data of at least one carrier from the interchangeable postage computer module for display change in the base unit based on user input regarding service requests made to a carrier and processing of the supplied data in the base unit,Receiving weight data and shipping data for a mailpiece,Postage value calculation based on the postage rate table data and calculation structure of the desired carrier in the interchangeable postage computer module andSupplying at least one carrier of the postage-encumbering data from the interchangeable postage computer module for processing the supplied data in the base unit.
