Fiber structure for fiber reinforced composite material and method of making fiber reinforced composite material

Abstract

Provided is a process for making a fiber structure for fiber reinforced composite material in which differences between the inner side and the outer surface side are given in the mechanical and thermal properties which comprises the steps of: preparing a fiber structure constituted integrally by reinforcing fibers and non-reinforcing fiber; and subjecting the fiber structure to a physical or chemical treatment to substantially remove or modify the non-reinforcing fibers.

  1. 1
A process for providing a fiber structure for fiber reinforced composite material which comprises the steps of:preparing a fiber structure constituted integrally by reinforcing fibers and non-reinforcing fiber;and subjecting the fiber structure to a physical or chemical treatment to substantially remove or modify the non-reinforcing fibers.
  2. 2
A process for providing a fiber reinforced composite material which comprises the steps of:preparing a fiber structure constitued integrally by reinforcing fibers and non-reinforcing fiber;and subjecting the fiber structure to a physical or chemical treatment, before or after impregnation with a matrix, to substantially remove or modifying the non-reinforcing fibers.
  3. 3
A process for providing a fiber reinforced composite material which comprises the steps of:preparing a fiber structure of a sheet form constitued integrally by reinforcing fibers as warp yarn and non-reinforcing fiber as weft yarn;impregnating the fiber sheet with a matrix;producing a laminated structure from the fiber sheets;and subjecting the laminated structure to a physical or chemical treatment to substantially remove or modifying the non-reinforcing fibers.
  4. 4
A process according to any of claims 1 to 3, wherein the fiber structure includes the reinforcing fibers in the inner side and the non-reinforcing fibers in the outer surface side.
  5. 5
A process according to any of claims 1 to 3, wherein the physical treatment is thermal treatment.
  6. 6
A process according to any of claims 1 to 3, wherein the chemical treatment is selected from acid treatment, alkali treatment, and oxidation treatment.
  7. 7
A process according to any of claims 1 to 3, wherein the reinforcing fiber is selected from specific types of or ganic fiber, ceramic fiber, carbon fiber, and metallic fiber which can hardly substantially be modified by the physical or chemical treatment, and the non-reinforcing fiber is selected from specific types of organic fiber, carbon fiber, and metallic fiber which can substantially be removed or modified by the physical or chemical treatment.
  8. 8
A process according to any of claims 1 to 3, wherein the combination of reinforcing fiber and non-reinforcing fiber is a combination of carbon fiber and a non-reinforcing fiber selected from organic fiber and metallic fiber, a combination of ceramic fiber and a non-reinforcing fiber selected from organic fiber, metallic fiber and carbon fiber, a combination of organic fiber and metallic fiber, or a combination of metallic fiber and a non-reinforcing fiber selected from organic fiber and carbon fiber.
  9. 10
A process for producing a structure comprising an arrangement of fibers for a fiber reinforced composite material, said method comprising:preparing a fiber structure comprising an integrated arrangement of a first set of fibers and a second set of fibers, said first and second set of fibers having different capacities to withstand a selected physical or chemical treatment, and subjecting the fiber structure to said physical or chemical treatment to substantially remove or modify fibers of one of said first and second set of fibers.
