20 claims: 1 independent, 19 dependent

  1. 1
A reaction solution for use in ink jet recording wherein a reaction solution and an ink composition are deposited onto a recording medium (7), the reaction solution comprising at least a polyvalent metallic salt and a component selected from the group consisting of a five- or six-membered saturated or unsaturated heterocyclic compound containing at least one nitrogen atom, an optionally alkyl-substituted amide derivative, a sulfur-containing compound, an amine, and a cationic surfactant.
  2. 12
The reaction solution according to any one of claims 1 to 11, which further comprises a colorant and glycerin.
  3. 13
The reaction solution according to any one of claims 1 to 12, wherein the polyvalent metallic salt is a salt of nitric acid or a salt of carboxylic acid.
  4. 14
An ink jet recording method comprising the step of depositing a reaction solution according to any one of claims 1 to 13 and an ink composition onto a recording medium (7).
  5. 17
The ink jet recording method according to any one of claims 14 to 16, wherein the reaction solution is deposited onto a recording medium (7) followed by printing of the ink composition on the recording medium (7).
  6. 18
The ink jet recording method according to any one of claims 14 to 16, wherein the ink composition is deposited onto a recording medium (7) followed by deposition of the reaction solution onto the recording medium (7).
  7. 19
The ink jet recording method according to any one of claims 14 to 16, wherein the reaction solution and the ink composition are mixed together immediately before or immediately after ejection from an ink jet recording apparatus followed by printing on a recording medium (7).
  8. 20
A record printed by the method according to any one of claims 14 to 19.
