An integrated circuit including a configurable logic array comprising:a plurality of logic areas (500) defined on the integrated circuit, each logic area having a perimeter and programmable logic circuitry positioned within the perimeter for performing logic operations therein in accordance with user-provided configuration data;wherein each logic area is symmetrically divisible into at least four logic area portions;wherein each logic area includes five or more input terminals (A-1-4, B1-4, C1-4. D1-4, EM1-4, EN1-4, FM1-4, FN1-4, G1-4, H1-4,) distributively positioned about the perimeter of the logic area for receiving five or more input signals supplied from outside the perimeter and for conducting the five or more externally supplied input signals into the logic area;wherein the programmable logic circuitry of each logic area includes combinatorial logic means (701.1-8, 702,1-4, 704.1-2, 705, 706) operatively coupled to the five or more input terminals of the logic area for producing a plurality of combinatorial logic signals (FC1-4, FD1-4, FE1-2, F, H);wherein each logic area further includes at least four output macrocells (FIGS 21-25), operatively coupled to the corresponding combinatorial logic means (701.1-8, 702,1-4, 704.1-2, 705, 706) of the logic area and positioned for distributively outputting the combinatorial logic signals (FC1-4, FD1-4, FE1-2, F, H) produced by the corresponding combinatorial logic means out of the logic area respectively from the four area portions of the logic area;wherein each of the four output marcrocells includes an output means (X1, Y1, X2, Y2, X3, Y3, X4, Y4) for outputting said at least one logic signal (FC1-4, FD1-4, FE1-2, F, H) out from the respective logic area portion corresponding to that macrocell;and wherein said macrocells are coupled to said combinatorial logic means so that at least one (H) of the combinatorial logic signals (FC1-4,D1-4,FE1-2,F,H) produced by the combinatorial logic means of each logic area is a function of at least five of the externally supplied input signals (A1-4, B1-4, C1-4, D1-4, EM1-4, EN1-4, FM1-4, FN1-4, G1-4, H1-4) of the corresponding logic area;whereby each of the four output macrocells of each logic area is arranged so that its output means may output the same said at least one signal (H) as a non-registered signal from any one of the respective four logic area portions of the corresponding logic area.
