EP0443797A2

Optical disc having signal recording layer on each side and method for producing same.

Abstract

A double-side optical disc formed by a pair of optical disc halves bonded together, and a process for producing the double-side optical disc. An adhesive is applied to the disc halves, which are then bonded together at an angle relative to each other in which the direction of the adhesive flow on one disc half will intersect the direction of the adhesive flow on the other disc half. In this manner, satisfactory flatness of the optical disc may be achieved without being affected by surface irregularities of the adhesive layer.

10 claims: 4 independent, 6 dependent

  1. 1
A double-sided optical disc formed by bonding a pair of optical disc halves together by transferring an adhesive from the outer peripheral surface of an adhesive coated rotating applicator roll by rolling contact of the optical disc halves therewith with said applicator roll extending in a rolling contact direction over the disc half,    the respective optical disc halves being bonded together at such an angle relative to each other that the respective rolling contact directions defined on the disc halves cross.
  2. 3
A double-sided optical disc formed by bonding a pair of optical disc halves together by an adhesive, each of said disc halves having the surface opposite to the signal reading surface coated with the adhesive, one of the disc halves being bonded to the other disc half after having been rotated a predetermined angle within a plane parallel to the surface of said optical disc in a direction to counteract surface irregularities of the adhesive applied to the disc halves.
  3. 6
A process for producing a double-sided optical disc comprising the steps of    applying an adhesive to at least a pair of disc halves,    bonding one of the disc halves to the other disc half after rotating it through a predetermined angle in a plane parallel to the surface of the optical disc in so as to counteract surface irregularities in the adhesive applied to said optical disc,    applying a pressure to the disc halves bonded together in a direction in which the disc halves are brought into intimate contact with each other, and    machining outer peripheries of the disc halves bonded to and pressed against each other.
  4. 9
A method of producing a double-sided optical disc by transferring an adhesive from the outer peripheral surface of an adhesive coated rotating applicator roll to optical disc halves by rolling contact therebetween with said applicator roll extending in a rolling contact direction over the disc half, and bonding the respective optical disc halves together at such an angle relative to each other that the respective rolling contact directions defined on the disc halves cross.
