  1. 1
A multiprocessor system comprising a plurality of processors (11, 12), a main memory (14) common to said plurality of the processors, and access control means (13) coupled to the plurality of the processors and to the main memory for individually controlling said processors to operate the plurality of the processors independently of one another by individually distributing each instruction to a selected one of the processors, characterized in that:each of said processors (11, 12) selectively executes a vector calculation and a scalar calculation under control of said access control means (13);and in that: each of said processors (11, 12) includes: a plurality of vector calculation units (21 to 24) which are coupled to said access control means and which are selectively put into active states under control of said access control means to execute the vector calculation in a pipeline fashion;and an instruction control unit (16) coupled to said access control means (13) for selectively putting said plurality of the vector calculation units (21 to 24) into the active states under control of said access control means (13) to execute the vector calculation in each of said processors independently of one another.
  2. 2
A multiprocessor system as claimed in Claim 1, wherein each of said processors (11, 12) comprises register means (26, 31) for storing a configuration signal representative of configuration of said at least one vector calculation unit in each of said processors; said access control means (13) comprising:arbitrating means coupled to said processors for arbitrating access to said main memory on the basis of said configuration signals sent from said processors to produce a control signal representative of the processor which is accessible to said main memory;and connection means connected to the vector calculation units (21 to 24) of said processors and to said arbitrating means for selectively connecting, to said main memory (14), the vector calculation means of the processor indicated by said control signal.
  3. 3
A multiprocessor system as claimed in Claim 1 or 2, wherein said processors (11, 12) comprise the vector calculation units (21 to 24) which are different in number from one another.
  4. 4
A multiprocessor system as claimed in Claim 3, wherein said register means (26, 31) in each of said processors indicates the number of the vector calculation units available in each of said processors.
  5. 5
A multiprocessor system as claimed in any one of Claims 1 to 4, each of said processors being operable to carry out processing other than said vector calculation, wherein each of said processors comprises a processing unit for carrying out said processing.
