  1. 1
A temperature probe assembly, for use in a patient treatment system wherein patient cells, in contact with a photoactivatable agent, are irradiated for photoactivating the agent extracorporeally while the agent and the cells are contained in an irradiation chamber, the assembly comprising:a thermally conductive tube segment (220);a thermocouple junction (213) thermally connected to the surface of the tube segment (220) and having two output leads (504, 505) for providing a signal responsive to temperature;contact means (512) for providing electrical connection to the output leads (504, 505);and    electronic processing means (515) for processing the thermocouple signal,    characterised in that:    the thermally conductive tube segment (220) is adapted to be arranged in fluid communication with the irradiation chamber;and    the assembly includes temperature stabilizing means (513) upon which the contact means (512) are mounted, the temperature stabilizing means (513) being thermally and electrically in contact with the electronic processing means (515).
  2. 4
The assembly of any one of claims 1 to 3, wherein the thermocouple junction (213) is electrically isolated from the tube segment (220) by means of a coating (510) of thermally conductive, electrically non-conductive plastic material interposed between the tube segment (220) and the thermocouple junction (213).
  3. 5
The assembly of any one of claims 1 to 4, which is calibrated to provide an output signal which is correct at or about 40°C.
  4. 6
The assembly of any one of claims 1 to 5, wherein the temperature stabilizing means comprises metallic foil (513).
  5. 7
The assembly of any one of claims 1 to 6, wherein the electronic processing means is a microelectronic chip (515).
