Closure device particularly for ski boots.

Abstract

The invention relates to a closure device particularly for ski boots. It is a known fact that closure devices for ski boots generally comprise hooks which utilize the lever principle, and which are in many situations difficult to operate. The above problem is solved by a closure device which comprises a box-like body associated with one of the flaps to be brought together and provided with a knob (30) for actuating a spool (4) whereon at least one small cable (8) associated with the other of the flaps to be brought together is wound. Also provided is a ratchet gear means (50) driven through the knob (30) and adapted to lock the spool (4) at any selected position as the knob (30) is turned in one direction, and to release the spool (4) as the knob (30) is rotated in the opposite direction.

10 claims: 9 independent, 1 dependent

  1. 1
A closure device particularly for ski boots, characterized in that it comprises a box-like body associated with one of the flaps to be brought together and provided with a knob (30) for the actuation of a spool (4) whereon at least one small cable length (8) associated with the other of said flaps to be brought together can be wound, there being further provided a ratchet gear means (50) operable through said knob (30) and effective to lock said spool (4) in any desired position as said knob (30) is rotated in one direction, and to release said spool (4) as said knob (30) is rotated in the opposite direction.
  2. 2
A closure device according to Claim 1, characterized in that said box-like body comprises a lower half-shell (1) and an upper half-shell (2) coupled together to define on the interior thereof a cylindrical cavity (3) for accommodating said spool (4) therein, said spool (4) being provided with an axial pivot pin (5) carried at the ends thereof in holes (6) defined on said box-like body.
  3. 3
A closure device according to the preceding claims, characterized in that said spool (4) has at- the top a recess (20) formed peripherally with an inside serration (21) wherewith a small pinion gear (22) associated with said knob (30) can mesh.
  4. 4
A closure device according to one or more of the preceding claims, characterized in that it comprises a ring nut (25) made rotatively rigid with said small pinion gear (22) and provided with an axial body (31) having a left-handed outside thread formation (32) wherewith said knob (30) engages, said body (31) having at the bottom a flange (33) provided with a serration (34) on the lower face thereof for engagement with a ratchet gear means (50), there being further provided a closing cap (40) rigidly connected to said ring nut (25) and said small pinion gear (22) and being adapted-to function as an abutment element for the axial displacement of said knob (30) in one direction.
  5. 5
A closure device according to one or more of the preceding claims, characterized in that said ratchet gear means comprises a pawl (50) hinged to said box-like body for oscillation about an axis extending in a perpendicular plane to the axis of said ring nut (25), said pawl (50) having at the top an engagement tooth (51) adapted for engagement with said serration (34) and a shoulder (53) releasably engageable with an actuation border (60) defined on the inner face of said knob (30), there being further provided an elastic means (52) effective to elastically urging said pawl (50) against said serration (34) on said ring nut (25).
  6. 6
A closure device according to one or more of the preceding claims, characterized in that as said knob (30) is rotated in one direction, said knob (30) abuts against said cap (40) and is rotatively rigid with said ring nut (25), thereby allowing said engagement tooth (51) to engage in ratchet relationship with said serration (34) for rotation in one direction, and engage in locked relationship for rotation of said ring gear (25) in the opposite direction.
  7. 7
A closure device according to one or more of the preceding claims, characterized in that, as said knob (30) is rotated in said opposite direction, said knob (30) by rotating relatively to said ring nut (25) moves into abutment relationship with said flange (33) on said ring nut (25) and the actuation border (60) thereof, by engaging with said shoulder (53) on said pawl (50), is adapted to produce the disengagement of said engagement tooth (51) from said serration (34) for the free rotation of said ring nut (25) and accordingly of said spool (4) in said opposite direction corresponding to the unwinding direction of the cables (8) from the spool (4).
  8. 8
A closure device according to one or more of the preceding claims, characterized in that it comprises travel limiting means adapted to prevent the rotation of said spool (4) in the opposite direction with said small cables (8) fully unwound, said travel limiting means including an axially protruding tooth (80) on said inside serration (21) and a small collar (81) provided at the roots of the teeth of said small pinion gear, said tooth (80) interfering with said small collar (81) to lock the relative rotational movement of said small pinion gear (22) with respect to said inside serration (21) in said opposite direction with said small cables (8) unwound from said spool (4), on said small collar (81) there being provided cutouts (82) adapted to enable the mesh engagement of said protruding tooth (80) as said small pinion gear (22) is being rotated in the winding direction of the small cable (8) onto the spool (4).
  9. 9
A closure device according to one or more of the preceding claims, characterized in that it comprises reference notches (90) respectively provided on said lower half-shell (1), on said inside serration (21) and on said small pinion gear (22) for mutual positioning during the assembling operation.
  10. 10
A closure device according to one or more of the preceding claims, characterized in that it comprises a pair of small cable lengths (8) having one end removably attached to said spool (4) at diametrically located points and the other end connectable to coupling seats (12) defined on said box-like body, said small cable lengths (8) extending through tubular elbows (15) associated with said other flap to be united.
