Methods for treating conditions associated with masp-2 dependent complement activation

Abstract

In one aspect, the invention provides methods of inhibiting the effects of MASP-2-dependent complement activation in a living subject. The methods comprise the step of administering, to a subject in need thereof, an amount of a MASP-2 inhibitory agent effective to inhibit MASP-2-dependent complement activation. In some embodiments, the MASP-2 inhibitory agent inhibits cellular injury associated with MASP-2- mediated alternative complement pathway activation, while leaving the classical (Clq- dependent) pathway component of the immune system intact. In another aspect, the invention provides compositions for inhibiting the effects of lectin-dependent complement activation, comprising a therapeutically effective amount of a MASP-2 inhibitory agent and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.

  1. 1
Use of a monoclonal MASP-2 inhibitcry antibody, or fragment thereof, which inhibits MASP-2-dependent lectin complement activation in the manufacture of a medicament for treating a subject suffering from, or at risk for developing, glaucoma, wherein die MASP2 inhibitory antibody or fragment thereof specifically binds to a portion of SEQ ID NO:6 and selectively inhibits MASP-2-dependent lectin complement pathway activation while leaving Clq-dependent classical complement pathway activation intact.
  2. 2
Use of a monoclonal MASP-2 inhibitcry antibody, or fragment thereof, which inhibits MASP-2-dependent lectin complement activation for treating a subject suffering from, or at risk for developing, glaucoma, wherein the MASP-2 inhibitory antibody or fragment thereof specifically binds to a portion of SEQ ID NO:6 and selectively inhibits MASP-2dependent lectin complement pathway activation while leaving Clq-dependent classical complement pathway activation intact.
  3. 4
A pharmaceutical composition suitable for inhibiting MASP-2-dependent lectin complement activation for use as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 3 comprising a therapeutically effective amount of a monoclonal MASP-2 inhibitory antibody, or fragment thereof, and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, wherein the MASP-2 inhibitory antibody ar fragment thereof specifically binds to a portion of SEQ ID NO :6 and selectively inhibits MASP-2-dependent lectin complement pathway activation while leavmg Clq-dependent classical complement pathway activation intact.
