Abstract

An electric gaming unit for allowing a user to play a video gambling game, may generally include a time generator that may a time signal and the video gambling game may adapt in response to the time signal. The electronic gaming unit may further include a currency-accepting mechanism that is capable of allowing the user to deposit a medium of currency and a controller operatively coupled to the display unit and the input device.

An electronic gaming unit, the electronic gaming unit comprising:a display unit configured to generate images;a speaker;a time generator configured to communicate a time signal that is indicative of a time of day;an input device configured to receive an input;CA 02436491 2011-05-09 -25a currency-accepting mechanism configured to accept a medium of currency;and a controller operatively coupled to the display unit, the time generator, and the input device, the controller comprising a processor and a memory operatively coupled to the processor, the controller being programmed to: change a selection of gambling games available to be played in response to the time signal;receive a signal from the input device indicating a gambling game to be played from the selection of gambling games available to be played;display a sequence of images on the display unit;change a game feature in response to the time signal communicated from the time generator, wherein the game feature is selected from the group of game features consisting of a theme of the gambling game, a minimum bet, a denomination, a bonus game, a bonus theme, a payout percentage, a volume of sounds emitted from the speaker, a brightness of the display, and a maintenance schedule of the gaming unit;determine, after the sequence of images has been displayed, an outcome of the gambling game represented by the sequence of images;and determine a currency payout associated with the outcome of the gambling game.

A method of adapting an electronic gaming unit, the method comprising:receiving from a time generator a time signal representing a current time of day;changing a selection of gambling games available to be played in response to the time signal;receive a signal from a input device indicating a gambling game to be played from the selection of gambling games available to be played;CA 02436491 2011-05-09 -26determining whether a game adaption is required based on the time signal;and executing the game adaption after it is determined the game adaption is required.

    22. The method of any one of claims 16 to 21 wherein the gaming unit further comprises a speaker and the game adaption comprises adjusting a volume of sounds emitted from the speaker.

A method of adapting an electronic gaming unit, the method comprising:receiving from a time generator a time signal representing a current time of day;changing a selection of gambling games available to be played in response to the time signal;receiving a signal from an input device indicating a gambling game to be played from the selection of gambling games available to be played;determining whether a game adaption is required based on the time signal;executing the game adaption after it is determined the game adaption is required;executing the gambling game;determining, after execution of the gambling game, an outcome of the gambling game;determining a currency payout associated with the outcome of the gambling game;and dispensing value via a value-dispensing mechanism after determining the currency payout.
