Systems and methods for posterior dynamic stabilization of the spine

Abstract

Devices, systems and methods for dynamically stabilizing the spine are provided. The devices include an expandable spacer having an undeployed configuration and a deployed configuration, wherein the spacer has axial and radial dimensions for positioning between the spinous processes of adjacent vertebrae. The systems include one or more spacers and a mechanical actuation means for delivering and deploying the spacer. The methods involve the implantation of one or more spacers within the interspinous space.

  1. 1
CLAIMS 1. An interspinous device for stabilizing at least one spinal motion segment comprising a first vertebra having a first spinous process and a second vertebra having a second spinous process, the device comprising:a metal member having side portions, end portions and apexes defined between the side portions and the end portions, wherein the end portions are recessed to provide a narrowed central portion, wherein the metal member has a delivery configuration and a deployed configuration, wherein the metal member in the delivery configuration has a narrow, elongated generally cylindrical shape configured to be translated through a delivery cannula, and wherein the side portions of the metal member project from the central portion to have a substantially H-shaped configuration of a size and shape configured for positioning between and providing distraction of the first and second spinous processes in the deployed configuration.
  2. 15
    An interspinous device for stabilizing at least one spinal motion segment comprising a first vertebra having a first spinous process and a second vertebra having a second spinous process substantially as herein described with reference to any one of the embodiments of the invention illustrated in the accompanying drawings and/or examples. 2005295212 02 May 2012 WO 2006/045094 PCT/US2005/038026 1 /40 FIG. 1 SUBSTITUTE SHEET (RULE 26) WO 2006/045094 PCT/US2005/038026 2/40 Axial Loading FIG. 2A FIG. 2B SUBSTITUTE SHEET (RULE 26) WO 2006/045094 PCT/US2005/038026 3/40 FIG. 2C SUBSTITUTE SHEET (RULE 26) WO 2006/045094 PCT/US2005/038026 4/40 SUBSTITUTE SHEET (RULE 26) WO 2006/045094 PCT/US2005/038026 5/40 SUBSTITUTE SHEET (RULE 26) WO 2006/045094 PCT/US2005/038026 6/40 SUBSTITUTE SHEET (RULE 26) WO 2006/045094 PCT/US2005/038026 7/40 SUBSTITUTE SHEET (RULE 26) WO 2006/045094 PCT/US2005/038026 8/40 SUBSTITUTE SHEET (RULE 26) WO 2006/045094 PCT/US2005/038026 9/40 SUBSTITUTE SHEET (RULE 26) WO 2006/045094 PCT/US2005/038026 10/40 FIG. 9B SUBSTITUTE SHEET (RULE 26) WO 2006/045094 PCT/US2005/038026 11 /40 SUBSTITUTE SHEET (RULE 26) WO 2006/045094 PCT/US2005/038026 12/40 FIG. 11D SUBSTITUTE SHEET (RULE 26) WO 2006/045094 PCT/US2005/038026 13/40 SUBSTITUTE SHEET (RULE 26) WO 2006/045094 PCT/US2005/038026 14/40 SUBSTITUTE SHEET (RULE 26) WO 2006/045094 PCT/US2005/038026 /40 FIG. 14B SUBSTITUTE SHEET (RULE 26) WO 2006/045094 PCT/US2005/038026
