Mobile communications network

Abstract

A public mobile communications network configured according to an established protocol (such as GSM) which includes a private network portion to which only a selected set of mobile stations (18) have access. The selected set of mobile stations (18) is provided with a private network identity code which is different to that of the public network identity code, and a base transceiver station (16, 26) of the private network portion broadcasts the private network identity code on its broadcast control channel. A mobile switching centre (2) prevents public subscriber mobile stations (8) from registering via the private network portion, whilst the private subscriber mobile stations (18) are allowed to register over the entire network.

  1. 1
CLAIMS :1. A mobile communications network comprising: a main network portion assigned a first network identity code for communicating with a mobile station;and an additional network portion assigned a second network identity code, different to said first network identity code, for communicating with said mobile station, said network identity codes being of the type used by said mobile station for distinguishing said mobile communications network from different mobile communications networks.
  2. 4
A mobile communications network according to any of claims 1 to 3, wherein said main network portion comprises a first transceiver which broadcasts said first network identity code, and said additional portion comprises a second transceiver which broadcasts said second network identity code.
  3. 12
A mobile communications network according to any of claims 7 to 11, wherein said network identity codes comprise network identity codes for distinguishing between different mobile communications networks, as defined in a technical specification for a mobile communications standard, such as GSM.
  4. 20
A mobile station adapted for service in said main network portion of a mobile communications network according to any of claims 1 to 16, the mobile station storing said first network identity code as a home network identity code and storing said second network identity code as a forbidden network identity code.
  5. 21
A set of mobile stations adapted for service in a mobile communications network according to any of claims 1 to 16, said set comprising a first mobile station storing said first network identity code as a home network identity code, and a second mobile station storing said second network identity code as a home network identity code.
  6. 22
A method of operating a mobile communications network according to any of claims 1 to 16, comprising transmitting said first network identity code to mobile stations in said main network portion, and transmitting said second network identity code to mobile stations in said additional network portion.
  7. 23
A mobile station which is compatible for use in a public mobile communications facility and in a private communications facility, said mobile station displaying a different service indicator when respectively registered with said public facility and said private facility.
  8. 28
A private mobile communications facility for use by mobile stations associated with a private communications facility, the private communications facility being adapted for the hand over of service of said mobile stations between the private facility and a public mobile communications facility when a call is in progress.
  9. 32
A subscriber identity module adapted for use in a mobile station according to any of claims 17 to 20 or 23 to 27.
