Packaging device and method for packing stacked soft hygienic products into a plastic bag

Abstract

A packaging device for packing stacked soft hygienic products, e.g. sanitary napkins, panty liners or the like, into a plastic bag made of an endless film, has specific forming shoulder (21) and MD sealing unit (5) to produce a MD seal (35) at a closure edge (46) of the bag. Thus four integral side panels are available at the bag (WB) for imprinting.

  1. 1
CLAIMS What is claimed is:1. A packaging device for packing stacked soft hygienic products, e.g. sanitary napkins, panty liners, diapers, or the like, into a plastic bag made of an endless film, said packaging device comprising: a stack forming unit (1) for bundling products into a stack (FS), a stack transport unit (3) for supplying the formed stack (FS) to a wrapping station (4), the wrapping station including = a supply tunnel (12) through which the formed stacks (FCS) are delivered to the wrapping station (4) in a row, = film feed (27) for feeding the film (18) from a film stock (19), = a funnel-shaped forming shoulder (21), arranged around the supply tunnel (12) with a substantially rectangular cross section design, over which the fed film (18) is drawn to guide the film (18) onto the supply tunnel (12) and to form a tube- like film envelope (20) around the stacks (FCS) leaving the supply tunnel (12), a machine direction - MD - sealing unit (5) for sealing the longitudinally running edges (29) of the tube-like film envelope (20), and a cross direction - CD - sealing unit (6) for forming and sealing the crosswise running edges of the tube-like film envelope (20) for each plastic bag (WB) simultaneously separating the sequenced bags (WB), characterized in that the funnel-shaped forming shoulder (21) has an asymmetric shape to guide the longitudinally running edges (29) of the film (18) to align with one longitudinal corner (26) of the supply tunnel (12) and the stacks (FCS), respectively, and the MD sealing unit (5) is located in the vicinity of said longitudinal corner (26) to produce an MD seal (35) at the plastic bag (WB) running along a longitudinal closure corner (46) of each plastic bag (WB).
  2. 5
A packaging device according to any of the preceding claims, characterized in that the MD sealing unit (5) comprises a pair of cooperating sealing rollers (30, 31), which form a sealing gap (32) in front of the longitudinal closure corner (46) for the longitudinally running edges (29) of the tube-like film envelope (20) of the plastic bag (WB) and the parallel axes of rotation (33) of which sealing rollers (30, 31) take acute angles (A 1 ;A 2 ) versa the adjacent side walls (44, 45) of the plastic bag (WB).
  3. 7
A packaging device according to any of the preceding claims, characterized by at least one pulling unit (36) arranged lengthwise of the tube-like film envelope (20) to transport same in synchronism with the stacks (FCS) leaving the supply tunnel (12).
  4. 9
A method for producing a plastic bag containing stacked soft hygienic products, e.g. sanitary napkins, panty liners, diapers, or the like, on a packaging device according to any of claims 1 through 7, comprising the following steps:forming a tube-like film envelope (20) around a supply tunnel (12) from a film (18), sealing a longitudinal edge (29) of the tube-like film envelope (20) to form a longitudinally closed film tube with an MD seal (35), applying a first CD seal (41) at the film tube to form a plastic bag (WB) transversally closed at a leading end of the tube, - inserting a formed and compressed stack (FCS) into the plastic bag (WB), and applying a second CD seal (41) to fully close the plastic bag (WB).
  5. 13
A stack compressing unit according to any of claims 10, 11 or 12, characterized by a push rod unit including a push rod (13) reciprocably driven to push the compressed stack (FCS) through the supply tunnel (12) into a tube-like film envelope (20).
  6. 15
A stack compressing unit according to any of claims 11 to 14, characterized in that the elevator stage (8) is suspended on an elevator bridge (9) lifting and lowering the elevator stage (8).
