System for identifying unauthorized sales and providing post-sale information to purchasers using electronic product registration

Abstract

A system for identifying improper sales locations (1804) for purchased products to assure compliance with agreements between manufacturers, retailers and/or other parties. The system also identifies suspicious activity based on information obtained at the point of sale (1800) and loaded into an electronic product registration system. The system further enables post-sale information, such as product recall information or other useful information, to be easily and accurately provided to purchasers of products. The system operates in conjunction with a suitable electronic registration system for purchased product and improves the functionality thereof.

    A computerized method of providing information to purchasers of products 'after a product purchase, comprising:obtaining a unique identifier for purchased products at the point of sale, transmitting the unique identifiers to a registration database together with additional data regarding the transactions, obtaining contact information for the purchasers, obtaining post-sale information relating to at least some of the purchased products, using the registration database, the contact information and the post-sale information to provide information to the purchasers of products to which the information relates.
