WHAT IS CLAIMED IS:L A process of preparing an epoxy-functional polysiloxane modified phenolic resin comprising reacting phenol with epoxy-functional polysiloxane to open the epoxy ring and form a C-O-C ether linkage between the phenol and the silicone molecule, forming an epoxy-functional polysiloxane-modified phenol and then adding formaldehyde and reacting with excess phenol to form a phenolic resole resin.
  2. 7
A process of preparing an epoxy-functional polysiloxane modified phenolic resin comprising blending a phenolic resole resin with an epoxy-functional polysiloxane.
  3. 12
A process of preparing an epoxy-functional polysiloxane modified phenolic resin reacting a polyhydroxy compound with an epoxy-functional polysiloxane at a temperature of between about 180°C and about 250°C for 1 to 7 hours and then blending the polyhydroxy-modified epoxy-functional polysiloxane into a phenolic resole.
  4. 15
A process of preparing an epoxy-functional polysiloxane modified phenolic resin reacting a polyhydroxy compound with an epoxy-functional polysiloxane at a temperature of between about 180°C and about 250°C for 1 to 7 hours and then reacting with formaldehyde or formaldehyde and phenol.
  5. 17
A composite comprising a substrate selected from the group consisting of glass, paper, glass cloth, carbon fiber, and aramid substrates and the epoxy-functional polysiloxane modified phenolic resin prepared in accordance with claim 1.
  6. 18
A composite comprising a substrate selected from the group consisting of glass, paper, glass cloth, carbon fiber, and aramid substrates and the epoxy-functional polysiloxane modified phenolic resin prepared in accordance with claim 7.
  7. 19
A composite comprising a substrate selected from the group consisting of glass, paper, glass cloth, carbon fiber, and aramid substrates and the epoxy-functional polysiloxane modified phenolic resin prepared in accordance with claim 12.
  8. 20
A composite comprising a substrate selected from the group consisting of glass, paper, glass cloth, carbon fiber, and aramid substrates and the epoxy-functional polysiloxane modified phenolic resin prepared in accordance with claim 15.
