Menu-card holder.

Be it known that I, Walter TI. Sawyer, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Denver and State of Colo5 rado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Menu-Card Holders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to 10 which it appertains to make and use' the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,'and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

My invention relates to improvements in menu card holders, my object being to provide a device of this class, which shall perform the double function of holding the regular menu card usually composed of two 20 leaves or sheets folded in the center, and to also provide a device, each cover or lid of which is composed of two members between which may be inserted either advertising cards or special lists, in addition to the ar25 tiples contained on the regular card. The inner member of each lid or cover of the device is .preferably composed of celluloid or other similar suitable transparent or translucent material. The body or outer member 30 of each lid is preferably composed of metal as aluminum, thus making it practicable to produce the device in very attractive and substantial form. The celluloid members are readily removable from the metal mem35 bers of the lid, thus making it practicable to permanently fasten advertising cards or other articles between ,the two members of the lid, in which event they may only be taken out by detaching the inner lid. Ordi40 nanly, however, the slips or cards inserted between the two members of the cover may be removed at the end or side, as may be desired.

Having briefly outlined my improved con45 struction, I will proceed to describe the same in detail₂ reference being made to the accompanying drawing, in which is illustrated an embodiment thereof.

In this drawing: Figure 1 is a front view 50 of my improved menu card holder, showing the same in use. Fig. 2 is a section taken on the line 2—2, Fig. 1, viewed in the direction of the arrow. Fig. 3 is a vertical section taken on the line 3—3, Fig. 1, looking 55 toward the left or in the direction of the ari row adjacent said line. Fig. 4 is a fragmentary sectional view, showing one of tSe fastening devices for holding the two lid members in removable relation.

Let the numeral ·> designate, each of the two lids of my improved device, whose outer metal members 4, are hinged by means of sleeves 6 and 7, connected by a hinge pin or rod 8, whose ex- es tremities are bent inwardly, as shown at 9 and provided with hooked ends 10, adapted to receive an elastic loop or endless band 12, which serves to retain the menu card 13, in Place- To the inner surface of the members 70 4, of the lids are secured transparent members 14, preferably composed of celluloid, these members are detachably connected with the metal members '4 in any suitable manner. As shown in the drawing, the’two 75 members 4 and 14 of each lid are provided at their corners with registering perforations, through which are passed male and female screws 15 and 16, each of which is provided with a protruding head for con- 80 vemence of manipulation. These two lid members are open at the sides or ends, for convenience in inserting and removing cards or lists of any kind. The inner members 14, are provided at their upper ends and also at 85 their outer edges, with thumb recesses 17 and . 18, for convenience in the removing and inserting of cards or other articles which it is desired to place therein. As heretofore stated., these cards, lists or printed articles of 90 any kind^.may be held between the two lid members, either fixedly, by passing the retaining screws therethrough, or by making the cards or lists of such size that they will pass in and out between the screws at either 95 the ends or side edges of the lids.

From the foregoing description, the use of my improved menu card holder will be readily understood and need not be further described in detail. 100
