Bag-tie.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, William H. Morrill, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Bangor, in the county of Penob5 scot and State of Maine, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bag-Ties, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to bag ties, and one of the principal objects of the same is to pro10 vide a simple device, for holding the ends of a cord of string to be passed around the mouth of a bag, and tp provide means whereby one end .of the string, may. be drawn to tighten the cord around the bag and to hold 15 the string at its adjusted position. ,

Another object of the invention is to provide a. simple sheet metal clasp provided • with two grooves or barrels having inwardly projecting tongues, means being provided to 20 securely hold the rope in one of said grooves or barrels and to permit the other end to be drawn through the groove or barrel to tighten the cord or rope around the top of a bag of grain, potatoes oi\other articles.

These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:

Referring to the drawing for a more particular description of my invention, the numeral 1 designates one of the barrels of the clasp, and 2 is the other.barrel thereof, said barrels being connected at their upper edges by an integral web or plate 3. The flat integral web 3 forms a convenient finger hold for the bag tie while adjusting the rope through the same. The outer edge of the barrel 1 is curved outwardly, as at 4, while 45 . the outer edge of the barrel 2 is similarly curved, as at.5. The barrel 2 is provided with prongs 8 which project in the opposite direction to the prongs 6 and upoii the opposite wall of the 55 barrel 2 is a prong 9 which projects in the same'direction as the prongs 8. The. result of this construction is that a bag tie cord or rope 10 m«y be rigidly secured to the barrel J. for the reason that-lhe. prongs (> prevent the rope from moving m one direction and 60 the prongs 7 prevent the rope from being moved, in the opposite direction.· The free end of the rope or cord 10 after it has been passed around a bag is drawn through the barrel 2, and may be adjusted- in the di rec- 65 tion indicated by the arrow in Figs. 2 and 4,·. and when adjusted will be held in position by means of the prongs 8 and. 9. Whenever it. is required to untie the bag, the. end 11 of the rope is drawn slightly and lifted out of 70 the barrel 2.

From the foregoing it will be obvious chat a bag tie made in accordance with my invention is of extremely' 'simjile construction, can be. manufactured at slight cost, provides 75 •for the ready adjustment of the loop which passes around the bag, and can be quickly adjusted and removed from. the. bag whenever access is requiredto the contents thereof.
