Combined mosquito-bar and table attachment for bedsteads.

Be it known that I, Mary E. C. Cowdrey a citizen of the United States, and a resident ot the county of Early and State of Georgia, 5 have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Mosquito-Bar and Table Attachment for Bedsteads, of which the following is a specification.

My invention is an improved attachment io tor bedsteads, cots and cribs for supporting a mosquito bar or canopy and a table over the bed.

The details of construction, arrangement, and combination of parts are as hereinafter 15 described, and shown in the accompanying drawing in which

Figure 1 is a perspective view showing my improved attachment applied to a bed. Fig. 2 is mainly a vertical section of the lower 20 portion of the attachment, the frame or support proper for the mosquito bar or net being omitted. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the collapsible frame or support for a mosquito net. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the 25 bedstead-rail clamp. Fig. 5 is a cross section of the lower portion of the socket bar or rod forming a member of the bedstead clamp. Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the interlocking ends of the socket bar 30 and the gooseneck or bar supporting the mosquito net.

Vindicates the clamp, B a socket bar or rod torming a portion or the clamp and serving as a support for an adjustable table, 0, 35 and for the goose-neck or curved rod D, that supports the collapsible frame E, which in turn supports the mosquito bar, or net F As shown in Figs. 2 and 5, the clamp A is formed of the lower portion of the vertical 40 socket rod B and a curved bar δ, a portion of which is parallel to the bar B and whose upper portion is curved laterally and provided with an elongated slot V through which the rod B passes, a clamp screw δ² being applied 45 at the end of the slotted portion and adapted to bear against the rod B. The remaining member of the clamp consists of a device δ³ in the end of a slotted bar having a clampscrew δ⁴ attached, the same being adapted 50 to receive the lower portions of the bars B and δ. The device δ³ being attached it is apparent that the rods B, δ, may be slipped down over a bedstead rail, as shown in Fig. 1, and the device δ³ then slipped up over the 55 ends of the parts B, δ, whereupon, the screws δ², δ⁴ being tightened, the rail is clamped tightly between the parts B, δ. Another clamp-screw δ⁵ may be applied to the upper portion of the bar B, but ordinarily its use is not necessary. As shown in Fig. 6, co a plate or cushion of rubber or other soft elastic material may be secured to the inner side of the socket bar B, which is slightly flattened in order to prevent abrasion of the outer side of the bedstead rail. 35

The lower portion,of the bar B is preferably made solid while the upper portion is necessarily made hollow and adapted to receive the tenon, or lower end, of the curved bar, or goose-neck, D. The latter is so con- 70 structed as to extend over a bed, as shown m Fig. 1, and to its free horizontal end is attached the frame or support for the mosquito canopy F. Such frame is constructed similarly to an umbrella frame, the ribs be- 75 mg, however, straight and adapted to be extended horizontally so as to form a flat surface as shown. The outer ends of the ribs are perforated like the ribs of an umbrella and the top of the entire frame is covered so with netting tightly stretched and to this around the entire edge another piece of netting is gathered to the fullness desired. The connection between the collapsible frame E and the goose-neck D is effected by a curved 85 arm E' having at its lower end a socket e²provided with a clamp-screw for securing the same to the goose-neck. The arm and socket are preferably cast integral with the slidable tube e³ forming a part of the collapsible 90 frame E. In order to prevent the gooseneck. rotating in the socket B, the latter is provided, as shown in Figs. 2 and 7, with four notches δ^β in its upper end and the gooseneck with corresponding lugs d adapted to 95 enter said notches. This constriction adapts the standard B to be attached on either side of a bedstead or to the foot of the same since the goose-neck may in each case be adjusted over the bed. ₁₀₀

In Figs. 1 and 2 there is shown the table attachment 0 which may be applied to and supported adjustably on the bar E, and which forms the subject of a divisional application filed by me Oct. 12, 1908, Serial 105 No. 457,230.

I thus provide, by a simple economical construction, a mosquito bar for bedsteads, cots, and cribs, which may be easily and quickly attached and detached, and adjusted 110 higher or lower and in other ways as required by conditions; further, that the main parts
