To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, William Thompson, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Man5 hattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Album, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention has reference to improve10 ments in albums generally, and to the envelops which are inclosed by the cover thereof and form the inside or intermediate portion of the album.

The object of the invention is to provide a 15 device of this nature suitable for inclosing photographic films anil such similar articles, whereby the same will be protected from the dust and against injury in handling, transport, etc.

The invention further contemplates the construction of two envelops from a single blank of sheet material, as paper; and the pro vision of a cover for the album, also made of a single piece.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

In the construction of a back for my im40 proved album, I employ a blank of paper, cardboard, or any suitable sheet material, as shown in Fig. 3, which is folded transversely upon itself at opposite ends to produce the flaps 10 and 11, and also likewise folded sub45 stantially centrally of these flaps to produce the backs 12 and 13, the back 12 being provided with a transversely-extending slit. 14. The flap 10 is preferably of tapering form, and the flap 11 is provided with a tongue 15 50 adapted to be passed within tho slit 14 when, the album is closed, as illustrated in Fig. 2, thereby retaining the album in closed position. ' ’

In order that the‘tongue 15 may be con veniently inserted and withdrawn from the 55 slit 14, a tab 16 is cut from the flap 11 and is bent outwardly from the body thereof to extend in a reverse direction from the tongue 15. as best shown in Fig. 2.

The intermediate portion of the album in- 60 closed by the cover is composed of one or more pairs of novel envelops 17 for containing films or other like articles, each pair being made from a single blank of flexible kheet material, as paper, and of rectangular form, 65 as shown in Fig. 4. In the construction of a pair of envelops from this blank, the latter is first folded transversely at the opposite sides of its center on the dotted lines 18, 18; these lines being located such a distance from 70 the ends of th eblank that the said endswill overlap and may bn pasted.or otherwise secured together, as represented in Fig. 5. This operation forms the blank into a receptacle open at both ends and closed at the side 75 edges, and which, when itself folded transversely on the dotted line 19 of Fig. 4, will produce two of iny improved envelops; these envelops being preferably provided with the usual nnger openings 20 for facilitating the 80 withdrawal of the films, the said finger openings resulting from the scalloping of the corners and the opposite sides of the blank at the center. The envelops may also bo pro-* vided with end flaps 21, as shown in Fig. 6, 85 by slightly modifying the construction of the ' ends of the blank, as is obvious. Any desired number of the envelops, either with or without the end flaps or a combination of the two, preferably the latter, may be placed be- 90 tween the biicks 12 and 13 of the cover in the production of the complete album, the pairs of envelops being assembled by placing one within the fold of the other and securing the whole io the cover by passing an elastic 85 band 2'2 about the line of folding, as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The flan 10 of the cover is then passed into the adjacent envelop to secure it therewith and give general rigidity to the album. 100

It is apparent, that the album is of simple construction and .may be made in other shapes than that shown; also, the envelops may be secured to the cover by other means than the elastic band, and such changes 105 made in the general const ruction without de- . parting from the nature of my invention as defined in the claims annexed.
