Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent— . 1. The bell-shaped and oval ring e, with the bows /, either double or single, constructed and operating substantially as herein shown and described, for the purposes specified.

Supporting the uterus by an expanded ring, made to fit the base of the uterus, and allowing the mouth to be enclosed thereby; substantially as described. IMPROVED UTERINE-SUPPORTER

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, E. J. Eraser, M. D., of Erie, in the county of Erie, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and improved Uterine Supporter; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.

_ This invention relates to a new and improved device for supporting the uterus of the human female; and ' The invention consists in forming and applying a bell-shaped metallic ring, with supporting-bows attached thereto, which ring is inserted and placed so that the base of the uterus is supported by and rests within the ring, as will be hereinafter more fully described.

Figure 1 represents a sectional view of the uterus and vagina, and the organs by which they are surrounded, showing the supporter placed as when in use.

Figure 2 is a view of the supporter, showing the . top or upper end of the ring, and also showing the supporting-bows attached thereto.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.

a is the uterus, or womb.

δ represents the bladder.

c is the rectum.

d is the vagina.

e is the ring of the supporter.

f represents the bows, which are connected with the ring upon two opposite sides by the wires g.

The ring a is formed to correspond to the size and shape of tbe neck and lower portions of the body of the uterus, so that the body of the uterus rests partly within and upon the bell-shaped flange or expanded edge of the ring, while the neck of the uterus is enclosed within, and the mouth passes entirely through the ring, as seen at ft.

As seen in fig. 2, the ring is expanded on its upper side, or edge, so that it forms an oval at the top to correspond with the shape of the Uterus, while the lower, portion or end of the ring is round.

The shaded portion of the ring, marked i, represents the oval or expanded portion of the ring.

The firm manner in which the uterus is seated in the ring prevents its displacement.

The bow/is made double at the base, (but may be single,) which forms a kind of basket-shaped, base, thereby giving the ring a more uniform support, and making it more comfortable for the wearer, and rendering turning or getting out of place practically impossible.

By this mode of forming the bows and the connecting side-wires g, ample room is given for the performance of the functions of the urethra and rectum, as will be readily seen.

This supporter is readily inserted or withdrawn by the patient herself, and it will be found an effectual remedy for that very prevalent, hut painful female affliction, known as “falling of the womb.”
