Safety pitchfork-holder.

To all whom, it may concern:

Be it known that I, Charles Schade, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cropsey, in the county of McLean and State of Illinois, 5 have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety Pitchfork-Holders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it apio pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked, thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to new and useful 15 improvements in devices for holding’ pitchforks; and the object of the invention is to produce a simple and efficient device of this character which will hold a tool from the floor.

The invention consists, further, in various 20 details of construction and in combinations and arrangements of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described and. then specifically defined in the appended claims.

My invention is illustrated in the accompa25 nying drawings, in which— ' Figure 1 is a side elevation of my device, showing a tool-handle applied thereto; and Fig. 2 is a top plan view.

Reference now being had to the details of 30 the drawings by letter, A designates a plate having a right-angled bracket extension B with a concaved end, as seen at C, and the integral part of said bracket extension has an aperture D, in which one end of a spring E is 35 fastened. Above the bracket extension B are lugs F, which are spaced apart and carry a pivot-pin H, upon which a swinging arm K is mounted. Said arm K has a lug K' projecting from the upper face thereof and has a 40 circular outlined aperture O therein,, with a handle extension J at the end thereof. The office of said spring E is to normally hold the arm J at its lowest limit. Projecting from the under side of said arm K is a curved fin45 ger Q, which is apertured at Q' for the reception of the upper end of the spring E. The purpose of said finger Q is to limit the downward throw of the arm K in the position shown in solid lines in Fig. 1 of the drawings.

In operation the handle of the pitchfork or 5° other tool is inserted through the aperture O, and when the arm K is in the position shown in dotted lines, and by lowering the arm to the position shown in solid lines the end of the lug K' and the lower marginal edge of 55 the aperture O will bite against the handle and securely hold the same in place, the lower portion of the handle resting at the time in the concaved end C of the bracket B, as will be understood. The plate A may be secured 60 by means of screws or other means to a wall or other object, thus affording a. simple and efficient means for holding a pitchfork or other tool.

While I have shown a particular form ot 65 apparatus illustrating my invention, it will be understood that I may make alterations, if desired, in the detailed construction of the same without in any way departing from the spirit of the invention. 7°
