Plow or cultivator-clamp.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Conrad Grabe, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sollitt, in the county of Kankakee and State of Illi5 nois, have, invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plow or Cultivator Clamps; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the io art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to a novel construction in a clamp particularly adapted to secure .the blades of cultivators and the like to the 15 frame and permit adjustment of the position thereof, the object being to provide a simple and efficient device of this character; and it consists in the features of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully de20 scribed and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, illustrating my invention, Figure 1 is a view⁷ in elevation, showing a plow or cultivator blade secured to a part of the standard by means of a clamp 25 constructed in accordance with my invention.

Fig. 2 is a top plan view, partly in perspective, of my said clamp. Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse section of same on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2.

My said clamp consists of a base-plate A, provided at its ends with flanges B, each provided with a lateral slot C, the inner wall of which is serrated, as at D, to receive the shanks of the bolts securing same to the blade E to hold said blade, and plate securely in relative positions. The said flanges B are offset at an angle to the middle or body portion of said plate, so that the recess F, formed between said flanges, is of greater depth at one side 4° than at its other side, said recess being adapted to receive the convex face of the blade E. The said middle or body portion of said plate A is provided between its ends with a raised projection G, in the outer end of which is a

V-shaped recess H, the walls of which are disposed at an angle of about one hundred and twenty degrees to each other, so as to make said recess relatively shallow. Between the said raised projection G and the flanges B

5° said plate is provided with openings J, which are square to receive the square portions of the shanks adjacent the heads of bolts K, the free ends of which pass through openings L in a plate M, which is provided on one side between its ends with a similar V-shaped’ 55 groove N, in which and said recess H of the plate A the cylindrical standard O of the carriage of the cultivator is received and clamped. The said arms Ovary greatly in diameter, and it is therefore essential that 60 said clamp should be capable of receiving the smallest as well as the largest of said arms. By means of the shallow V-shaped recesses I secure great latitude of adjustment and insure equally good contact with all sizes of said 65 arms.

By offsetting the flanges B at a very slight angle to the body of the plate A, I also secure a better adjustment of the position of the blades relatively to the standard, as I am en- 70 abled to obtain most advantageous angles, and thereby increase the efficiency of the cultivator.
