IMPROVED HEAD-REST.

I TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Be it known that I, A. Dunlap, of Clyde, in the county of Sandusky, and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Head-Rests; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and complete description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings making a part of this specification, in which—

Figure 1 shows the application of the rest.

Figure 2 is a top view of the rest.

Figure 3 is a detached section.

Dike letters of reference refer to like parts in the views.

This rest is constructed in three sections, A Β B', fig. 2, of which A is the upper one or rest for the head, and consists of a light framework of wire, C, fig. 1, which is so shaped as to fit the back of the head, and also provided with a cushion, D, for the greater comfort and ease of the wearer. The lower or shoulder-sections, B B', also consist of a framework of wire, and so curved and shaped as to fit the shoulders, as' shown in fig. 1. These are also provided with pads or cushions, E, for the ease and protection of the. shoulder. F are sockets or tubes, secured to the sections B, and into which the ends of the upper sections are introduced, thereby coupling the two sections together, as shown in fig. 2. A continuation of the front of the lower sections forms a bow, G, fig. 3, the extreme ends of which are turned outward, and so shaped as to fit. the arms, and which are also p'added, as shown at H, fig. 3.

The especial purpose of this apparatus is for the comfort and convenience of those riding in railroadcoaches, .in which the backs of the seats are too low to afford a rest for the head.

The application of this head-rest is readily suggested by fig. 1, in which.it will be seen that the section A surrounds the hack of the head, the weight of which is thrown upon the shoulders, and which is secured from becoming displaced by the bows G, which pass down under the arm-pits, and hold them by the curved pads H, by which the back part of the arms are embraced.

By constructing this rest in sections, as above described, it can be easily taken apart, and thus made more cohvenient for carrying. It will be obvious that this rest is alike applicable to all places or circumstances when a rest for the head is desired while in a sitting posture. ^x
