Window-shelf bracket.

Be it known that 1, Frank M. Hazzard, a citizen of the United States, residing at Caywood, in the county of Seneca, State of New 5 York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window-Shelf Brackets, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

io This invention relates to a window-shelf bracket,and particularly to a structure adapted to permit the movement of a shade between the shelf and the supporting-base of the bracket.

The invention has for an object to provide a bracket comprising a base and a shelf-sup, porting arm connected thereto by a laterallyextending looped portion which permits the shade to be raised and lowered without in20 terfering with the bracket.

A further object of the invention is to provide a construction by which the shelf may be adjusted on the bracket toward and from the window over the looped portion of the 25 bracket, so as to be moved close to the window when the shade is raised or away therefrom when the shade is lowered.

Other and further objects and advantages of the invention will hereinafter appear, and 30 the novel features thereof will be defined by the appended claims.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective of the window having the bracket applied thereto; Fig. 2, a detail perspective of the 35 bracket; and Fig. 3, a horizontal section through the window, showing the bracket in plan and the shelf in dotted lines.

Like letters of reference indicate like parts in the several figures of the drawings.

The letter A indicates a window - casing which is supplied with the usual sashes A' of any desired construction and in front of which the usual roller - shade B is located. The bracket C is shown as applied one to 45 each side of the window-frame although it may be applied or used in any manner found desirable or convenient. This bracket is composed of a base C' of any desired configuration—for instance, comprising a plate having apertures C², by means of which it is secured to the window-frame A. At the upper end of this base-plate a laterally-extending frame C³ is disposed in a horizontal plane and connected by a curved bent portion C⁴ with a similar parallel laterally - extending portion C⁵, 55 thus forming what is herein designated as a “looped” or U-shaped portion, although the particular configuration of this loop may be altered as found convenient, Opposite the base-plate C' a supporting-arm C⁶ extends 60 laterally from the portion C⁵ and at a right angle to the base O'. This arm is adapted to receive and support the shelf D by any desired means—for instance, the bolt D' and thumb-nut D², operating in a slot C⁷ in the 65 supporting-arm and passing through the shelf D, by means of which the shelf may be adjusted longitudinally upon the arm toward and from the window.

In the application of the invention shown 70 in Fig. 1 the open ends of the looped portions extend toward each other, thus permitting free movement of the shade B without in any wise interfering or contacting with the brackets or the shelf, while the supporting-arms 75 for the shelf are disposed inward from the ends thereof, so as to secure the most desirable point of support. Furthermore, the adjustment of the shelf permits the same to be moved close to the window when the shade is 80 raised, so that flowers supported thereon may be brought into the sunlight, while at night the shelf may be moved backward upon its supporting-arms and the shade drawn down. It is also desirable upon cold nights to pro- 85 tect flowers or other objects supported on such a shelf by removing them from close relation to the window, and by drawing the shade downward they are thereby protected from the window or drafts. Itwillbeappar- 90 ent that this bracket permits the secure supporting of a window-shelf from the windowcasing and the free movement of the shade without interference therewith.

It will be obvious that changes may be made 95 in the details of construction and configuration without departing from the spirit of the invention as defined by the appended claims.
