GAME APPARATUS.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 712,231, dated October 28,1902.

To all whom it may concern:

Beit known that I, ARTHUR S. ALEXANDER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhat5 tan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Game Apparatus, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The invention relates to table-tennis or io ping-pong; and its object is to provide a new and improved game apparatus which is simple and durable in construction and arranged to require considerable skill on the part of the players to successfully play the game.

The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same, as will be more fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims.

A practical embodiment of the invention is 20 represented in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both views.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the im25 provement as applied, and Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional side elevation of one of the sectional stakes.

The game apparatus illustrated in Fig. 1 consists, essentially, of stakes or posts A, at30 tached by suitable clamping devices or other fastening means B to a table C or like support,and between the said stakes are stretched nets D and E, extending transversely of the table and fastened by strings or the like to 35 the said stakes.

The nets D and E are disposed vertically one above the other and spaced apart to form an opening between the said nets for the passage of the ping-pong ball propelled by the 40 players. In practice I prefer to make the lower net wider than the upper one and place the nets a distance apart equal to about double the width of the lower net. By this arrangement the game of table-tennis is rendered 45 more difficult to play, as the players in order to play successfully must propel the ball either through the opening between the nets or over the upper net.

The stakes A may be made solid; but I pre fer to make each in sections A' and A², hav- 50 ing dowel-pin connections A³, to allow of removing the upper sections A³ and with the same the upper net E, to permit of playing table-tennis with the single interposed net between the players, as heretofore practiced. 55
