Gas-burner.
1 claim: 1 independent, 0 dependent
- 1We claim as our invention— A device for regulating the flow of gas comprising a base provided with an upwardly-extending nipple, an exterior groove in said nip- 90 pie adjacent its lower end, a central opening in said base and through said nipple, a fluted cylindrical cap adapted to fit loosely over said nipple, prongs on the lower end of said cap extending into said groove, a casing adapted 95 to be mounted on said base and over said cap; and a central opening in the upper wall of said casing of less diameter than said cap; 700,205 the latter being adapted to be raised by excessive pressure of gas and strike the upper wall of said casing, thereby partially closing said central opening and decreasing the flow 5 of gas therethrough, said cap by reason of its corrugations preventing the flow of gas from being entirely shut off at any time, substantially as described. In testimony whereof we affix our signatures in presence of two witnesses. PETER KELLER. PHILIPP SEILER. Witnesses:Rudolph Wm. Lotz, E. F. Wilson.

GAS-BURNER.
SPECIFICATION forming· part of Leiters Patent No. 700,205, dated May 20,1902.
Application filed February 19,1901, Renewed April 17,1902. Serial Ko, 103,433. (Komodel.)
To all whom It may concern:
Be it known that we, Peter Keller and Philipp Seiler, citizens of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and 5 State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gas-Burners; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in io the art to which it appertains to make and use the same:
Our invention relates to an improvement in gas-pressure regulators, the object being to provide a regulator which will automatically 15 preserve a uniform pressure at the delivery end of same regardless of any variations of gas-pressure at the inlet end; and it consists in the features of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described and 20 claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, illustrating our invention, Figure 1 is a vertical central section of a regulator made in accordance with our invention. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section 25 on line 2 2, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a vertical central section of a gas-burner provided with a regulator made in accordance with our invention.
In said drawings, A represents a base pro30 vided with a central passage B, through which the gas is adapted to pass. In Fig. 1 said passage B is enlarged at the lower end and is provided with an internal screw-thread adapting said member A to be connected to a pipe 35 or other supply of gas. Said member A is provided with a central projection C on its upper end, upon which is loosely mounted a corrugated shell or cap D, which is adapted to be raised by the gas as it passes upward 40 through said passage B. The upward movement of said cap D is limited by the internal shoulder E, formed on the casing G, which is adapted to be secured to the upper end of said member A. As the upper surface of said 45 cap D comes in contact with said shoulder E the flow of gas is limited to the amount which can pass through the spaces between the corrugations in said cap and said shoulder E. In operation the said cap D is raised by the gas, the gas passing upward through said pas- 50 sage B to the top of said projection C, thence downward through the spaces H between the side walls of said cap D and said projection C, thence upward through the space I between said cap D and said casing G, thence 55 between the upper surface of said cap D and said shoulder E, thence through the outlet J. As the gas-pressure increases said cap is raised more and more, thus decreasing the space between the upper surface of same and 60 said shoulder E until said cap is pressed against said shoulder, when the gas-passage is reduced to a very small area, consisting only of the spaces between the corrugations in the upper wall of said cap D and said shoul- 65 der E. Said projection C is provided with a groove K in its outer surface at its lower end, forming the shoulder L, and said cap D is provided with inwardly - projecting points M, adapted as said cap D is raised to strike said 70 shoulder L, and thus prevent the removal of said cap D. This is of use only when said casing G is removed in preventing said cap D in becoming separated from said member A and being lost. 75
In Fig. 3 we have shown a modification of said regulator adapted to be inserted in a dommon gas-pillar N. The lower end of said member A is externally screw-threaded and is adapted to be screwed into the lower end 80 of said pillar N by means of the screw-driver slot 0 in its lower end. In this case the corrugated cap D is adapted to strike or press against the wire screen P, which is ordinarily placed in gas-pillars in place of the shoulder 85 E, as in Fig. 1.
