- 1Having thus described my invention, what 100 I claim is— In a concentrator, the combination with a suitable frame, of a table mounted thereon and composed of flat strips having their ad669,043 jacent side edges in contact, and separated transverse wires or rods with, which the said strips are interwoven to form cells having side openings, but no vertical outlet, and 3 means for imparting a vibratory movement to the table at right angles to the length of the longitudinal strips. In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses. ADOLPH K. CROSS. Witnesses:Dora C. Shick, Mary C. Lamb.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Adolph K. Cross, a citizen of Germany, residing at Denver, in the county of Arapahoe and State of Colorado, 5 have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Concentrating Apparatus; and I do declare the following· to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which io it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in. apparatus for saving the metallic values of pulverized ore or placer material by concentration; and to this end the invention consists of the features, arrangements, and combina2o tions hereinafter described and claimed, all of which will be fully understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which is illustrated an embodiment thereof.
In the drawings, Figure lis a vertical lon25 gitudinal section taken on the line x x, Fig.
2. Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the apparatus viewed from a position at the left of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of my improved concentrating-screen.
The same reference characters indicate the same parts in all the views.
Letthenumeral 5 designate a suitable frame upon which is swung a trough or sluice 6. To the sides 6a of this trough are connected 35 the lower extremities of depending rods or hangers 7, whose upper extremities are movably connected with the frame. The arrangement of the rods 7 is such as to permit a lateral oscillation of the trough through the in40 strumentality of suitable mechanism. As shown in the drawings, a crank-shaft 8 is journaled to one side of the frame, and rods 9 lead from cranks of this shaft to the trough, the arrangement being such that as the crank45 shaft is rotated an oscillating movement is imparted to the trough in a direction at right angles to its length. The trough is so hung as to give it a suitable inclination, its head or right-hand extremity (see Fig. 1) being high50 est. Near the lower extremity or tail of the trough an opening 6C is formed in its bottom. In the rear of this opening is placed a part
6d, which is oppositely inclined from the upper portion of the trough’s bottom. Suitably supported in this trough is a screen 10, com- 55 posed of flat longitudinal strips 10a, interwoven with transverse strips, wires, or rods 10c. The strips 10a are placed in contact with each other, while the transverse strips or wires 10c are placed some distance apart. In form- 60 ing the screen any two adjacent strips 10a are passed the one above and the other below the same transverse wire, while each strip 10a is passed alternately above and below the transverse wires. Hence cells or depressions 65 10d are formed in the alternate strips 10a on the line of any wire 10°. These cells have side openings, but no vertical outlet, since the strips 10a are close together. As shown in the drawings, the cross-wires 10c are fas- 70 tened by bending their extremities to form hooks 10s, which engage the outer edges of the outer strips 10a. This screen, as shown in the drawings, forms a concentrating-table which is supported by cleats 6s, attached to 75 the opposite sides of the table. Only one of these cleats is shown in the drawings.
When the apparatus is in use, the material to be treated is fed in the form of pulp upon the upper extremity of the screen-table from 80 a hopper 12 (see dotted lines, Fig. 1) or in anjT other suitable manner, while a lateral oscillation or vibratory movement is imparted to the trough or sluice at right angles to the direction of the strips 10a of the table. Un- 85 der the influence of this movement the metallic values are caused to settle in the cells 10d of the table, while the gangue is carried downwardly by the water and discharged at the tail of the table. The finer concentrates 90 pass through the side openings of the cells 10d and thence into the bottom of the trough or sluice, from which they are discharged through the opening 6C, while the coarser mineral values are caught in the cells. 95
It will be observed that the cross-wires 10e of the table form riffles in the bottoms of the cells, which break the force of the current of water and facilitate the settling of the values.
