CASE OR HOLDER FOR ADHESIVE ARTICLES.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, William Hedrick, a citizen of the United States, residing at Moorestown, Burlington county, New Jersey, have 5 invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cases or Holders for Adhesive Articles, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to holders or cases for articles or materials having gummed or adio hesive surface or surfaces; and the object of my invention is to provide an article of manufacture of the character designated which shall be simple and economical in construction and adapted to efficiently prevent the 15 adhesion of the gummed sides of stamps, labels, and the like to the parts of the holder or to one another, whereby the said articles may be carried about the person without danger of loss or annoyance due to such adhesion 20 or sticking.

With this object in view my invention consists of a case, book, or holder containing a series of pockets, divisions, or leaves arranged to hold or have placed between them postage, 25 revenue, or any other stamps or any other articles of manufacture—such as gummed paper or other material, plain or printed, courtplaster, adhesive plaster, gummed labels, or anything with an adhesive surface on one or 30 both sides—as hereinafter described, with reference to the accompanying drawings, and more particularly pointed out in the claims appended to this specification.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective 35 view of a certain form of pocket-book to which my invention is applied. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse sectional view thereof. Fig. 3 is an enlarged .detail, and Fig. 4 is a similar detail showing more fully the con40 struction of one division or compartment of the book.

Referring now to the drawings, in which the same reference characters relate to the same or corresponding parts in all the views, 45 the letter A indicates the pocket-book, with body A³ of ordinary construction, having end gussets a and the overlapping flap A', which book is preferably provided with a tablet D, made of some suitable material upon which 50 pencil-memoranda maybe entered and erased, as desired. This tablet may be of an ordinary silicate composition and may obviously be omitted or used, as preferred.

In order to provide the several compartments of the pocket-book with my improve- 55 ment, I preferably take a sheet B of non-adhesive flexible material, such as paraffined paper, and form it into a lining for each compartment or division, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, and apply the fold to the upper part of the 60 . partition between pockets or compartments, securing the said lining in place by paste, eyelets, or clips C, and in order to fit the lining to the gussets a I slit the fold, as shown at c, Figs. 1 and 3, the two wings thus formed 65 conforming to the contour of the gusset, against which they may be pasted or confined in any suitable manner.

If desired, the lining may be formed of one piece having a series of folds, as indicated 70 in Fig. 2, or a single fold for each two adjacent compartments, as shown in said figure, as will be obvious to those skilled in the art.

In one or more of the compartments it may be desirable to form single leaves or hinged 75 pieces, such as B' and B³, Fig. 2; and to attach such leaves to the book without exposed joints I preferably form a reverse fold &amp;^s on the lining B of that compartment and a single fold at the lower edge of said leaf B³, hav- 80 ing the bent portion V extending upwardly into the fold b^s, the latter overlapping and inclosing the said bent portion, so as to cover the same, and thus form an interlocking joint, wherein the adjacent parts are secured to- 85 gether by paste or otherwise attached.

From the foregoing description it will be seen that the formation of the lining material may be accomplished by taking a side of any suitable material and attaching to it a 90 smooth non-adhesive non-sticking material for the inside of pockets. A material wholly non-adhesive may be used for sizes of cases where best adapted, and the pockets of this stamp-case are readily formed by folding said 95 material with folded edge at the top and then split at each end to insert a gusset or lining, which may be made of cloth, leather, or any other suitable material, so as to allow the pocket to expand, the gusset to be on the out- 100 side, leaving only non-stickable surface anywhere inside the pockets. The folds so made

635,582 may be attached to an outside cover by gluing, sewing, or eyeleting, as the size and strength of the case desired may require, or the compartments may be made by folding a sheet or 5 piece of the above-named non-stickable material, leaving the folded edge up and folding or turning either way at an angle, the bottom ends of the folded sheet thus forming a foot or attaching strip with an expanded botio tom for the division. The foot or strip may be attached to the outside cover by gluing, sewing, or eyeleting, or by either mode, and, further, a single leaf, not folded, of a corresponding material, with bottom edge or at15 taching-strip turned either way, may be used on the same principle as the folded sheet last above described and indicated at B' and B². The divisions of this ease maybe finished by applying names for contents—such as denom20 inations, numbers, indexes, dates, figures, &amp;c.—when size requires. Furthermore, anunattached but component part of this stampcase consists of either folded or flat sheets or leaves composed of the same non-stickable '25 materials heretofore described and to be used where more than one folded sheet or two single sheets with the gummed sides outward are required to be used, as heretofore described.

In using the book the folded sheet is de30 signed to drop over each side of a folded sheet, having the gummed side folded outward, the next sheet of stamps or other folded material to be folded gummed side inward and placed over both sides of the non-adhesive 35 sheet, the next sheet of stamps to be folded gummed side outward, which brings the printed or ungummed sides of the two last sheets together and leaves the gummed sides ready for another sheet of the non-adhesive. 40 The single or unfolded sheet or leaf is especially designed to be used between unfolded parts or adhesive sheets or sheets of whole size unfolded. In cases where more than two or both outside gummed surfaces are required 45 to be used these single sheets will be strong and made much thicker than the folded.

The outside cover A² of case or holder may be formed of one piece or of several pieces of suitable material—such as leather, cloth, pa50 per—or various materials may be combined for price, usefulness, strength, and appear ance and may or may not have a flap-cover, and may have any kind of cover or fastening, as required.
