To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, William H. Ward, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Mound City, in the county of Linn and State 5 of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trucks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which/ similar numerals of io reference indicate corresponding parts wherever found throughout the several views.

This invention relates to trucks, and to that class thereof usually employed for moving freight, baggage, and other heavy articles 15 from one point to another; and the object of the invention is to provide an improved device of this class whereby various articles may be quickly and easily moved from one point to another and loaded onto a car or other 20 vehicle and as quickly and easily removed therefrom.

The invention is fully disclosed in the followingspecification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which—

In the practice of my invention I provide a truck which comprises a main frame 5, which is provided with the usual axles 6, on which are mounted the usual wheels 7, and the main 35 frame 5 of the truck maybe of any desired form and construction, and secured to or formed on the upper side of said, main frame and centrally thereof is a wheel 8, which forms a bearing for the supplemental re voluble frame, 40 hereinafter described. I also provide a supplemental oblong frame 9, which is composed of a bottom or bottom frame 10 and vertical side strips 11, and secured to or formed on the under side of the body 10 of the supple45 mental frame is a bearing-ring 12, which is of the same form as the ring 8 and which rests thereon, and the bottom 10 of the supplemental frame 9 is provided with a pin or bolt 13, which passes centrally through said 50 rings and through a cross plate or bar 14, which forms a part of the main frame, and as thus constructed the supplemental frame is free to revolve or to be turned on the main frame, as will be readily understood. I also provide a lock for the supplemental frame 55 and to prevent the revolution thereof, which consists of a rod 15, mounted in keepers 16 at the side of the main frame 5, and one end of said rod is provided with a head or handle 17 and the other is pivotally connected with 60 a weighted crank-lever 18, which is connected with the main frame 5 of the truck at 19, and the other arm 20 of said crank-lever is adapted to operate in a longitudinal slot 21 in the bottom of the supplemental frame, and each 65 end of said supplemental frame is provided with one of the slots 21, and by means of this device it will be seen that by simply operating the rod 15 when the supplemental frame is turned in line with the main frame 5 the 70 said supplemental frame may be locked in position and cannot be turned on the main frame of the truck. I also provide an auxiliary sliding frame 22, which consists of side bars 23 and bars 24 and a body portion, which 75 consists of longitudinal plates or bars 25, which are connected with each other and with the side bars 23 by cross-rods 26.

The auxiliary sliding frame 22 is provided at each end with a handle 27, and the side 80 bars 23 thereof are provided with a plurality of rollers 28, any desired number of which may be employed, and said auxiliary frame is adapted to fit within the· side walls or flanges 11 of the supplemental frame, and in this po- 85 sition it rests on the rollers 28 and is free to be moved back and forth over said supplemental frame, and I also provide sliding bars 29, which are mounted at one end of the sliding frame in suitable keepers 30 and with 90 each of which is connected a sliding rod 31, mounted in keepers 32, and in practice the truck is preferably made sufficiently high to allow the bars 29 to be projected so as to rest on a car-floor, in order to prevent the depres- 95 sion of the end of the truck-frame 21 while the sliding frame is being loaded, and I also prefer to provide a number of the sliding frames, and in this event one of these frames may be moved into a car and left, while the 100 truck is returned and another frame placed thereon and locked, and by this means the truck may be kept constantly in use, as will be readily understood.

In practice the freight, baggage, or other articles are placed on the auxiliary frame 22 and may be transported to any desired point, and whenever it is desired to load the same 5 into a car the truck is run up adjacent to the side thereof, the supplemental frame is turned in the main frame of the truck until it is at right angles to the door, and the auxiliary frame is then moved along the main frame in ro the direction of the door, and if the height of the truck is sufficient the auxiliary frame may be run into the car, or so that one end thereof will rest on the floor of the car and the other on the truck, or the sliding frame 15 may be run into the car, as described.

It will be apparent that a car may be unloaded in the same manner, and the truck maybe similarly employed for loading wagons and other vehicles and for unloading the 20 same.
