To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Selma Kehlenbeck, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pleasant, in the county of Switzerland and State 5 of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Baby - Carriers, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which— io Figure 1 is a detail view showing the construction of my improved baby carrier and Fig. 2 illustrates the application of the device.

The object of my invention is to provide a novel, useful and inexpensive device whereby 15 babes may be carried with entire safety and comfort to themselves and without fatigue or inconvenience to those who carry them.

The peculiar excellence of the invention and the simplicity of its construction will be 20 readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawings,Jin which—

A represents a band or belt made of webbing or other suitable material which is suspended on the shoulder of the wearer and ex25 tends diagonally downward to the opposite side of the body, which it encircles, and forms a sling which furnishes a safe and pleasant seat for the child, while its back is supported by a transverse band B of similar material 30 which extends from front to rear, under the arm of the wearer and connects the opposite sides of the main belt. Both belts are readily adjustable to the form or size of the wearer by buckles C having extensions provided 35 with snap hooks which engage rings attached to the opposite ends of the belts. A pocket D for a nursing bottle is adjustably attached to the main belt. If desired the main belt may be made partly or entirely of elastic ma40 terial.

It will be understood that while it is customary with nurses to carry children on their left side as herein illustrated, the arrangement of the belts may be easily reversed if required and the position of the child changed 45 accordingly. It will also be observed that when properly placed in the sling, the child cannot accidentally fall or be thrown out of its seat, and that while one hand of the nurse may be sometimes engaged in caring for the 50 child, the other is at all times free to perform other work.

In addition to the other manifest advantages of the device, it will be found specially desirable for the reason that it encourages an 5 5 erect position of the body of the nurse as well as the child instead of the stooping habit which is contracted when babes are carried in the arms.
