IMPROVEMENT IN BAG-HOLDERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 51,220, dated November 28, 1865.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, E. Reynolds, of Corunna,in the coun ty of Shiawassee and State of Michigan, have invented a new and Improved Bag-Holder; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawings, formingpart of this specification, in which—

My invention relates to that class of devices employed for holding- the mouth of a bag open while the. bag is being filled; and it consists of two jaws attached to a bent wire, carrying a hook for securing the same to a staple in the mill or flour-bin.

AA represent the jaws of the device. These jaws are somewhat curved in form, and in the present instance are provided with roundingteeth, a a, for producing a better hold uponthe fabric of which the bag may be composed. I will remark that they can be made without teeth aud yet answer the purpose.

B is a wire rod, one end of which is attached toone jaw and the other to the other jaw. The said avire rod has one or more coils, b, made in it near its center for giving the necessary spring to throw the jaws apart. This rod may be of any suitable metal or material, and constructed in any suitable way which shall possess the necessary outward tendency or spread of its lower ends which carry tbe jaws of the device.

C is a hook, which is attached to the rod B,at or nearits center—say in the coil δ—which hook can be hooked to a staple, peg, or the like, on the wall or flour-bin, for sustaining- the bagwhile being filled, the bottom of the bag of course, resting upon some supporting-base. Many equivalents forthishook, such as strings and the like, can be used, and I therefore do not limit myself to a hook for hanging up the device.

Tbe above few parts constitute the holder in its present form, and the device at once recommends itself for its simplicity aud cheapness.
