To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that. I, Benjamin B. Wright, a citizen of the United States, residing at Evansville, in the county of Vanderburg and 5 State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Bracket or Shelf, of which the following is a specification.

This invention has relation to brackets or shelves, and among the main objects in view io are to provide a removable bracket so constructed as to be capable of being easily and cheaply cast, which will consist of as few parts as possible, and when assembled will be rigid and strong.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will hereinafter appear, and the novel features will be particularly pointed out in the claims.

represents the usual brace-frame, the upper and rear edges of which are provided with a lateral flange 7, projecting at each side of 4° the brace, the upper flange being formed at about the center with a depression 8, in the center of which there projects upwardly and above the surface of the flange a transverselyarranged lug or key 9. At the intersection or angle of the flange there is provided an angular recess or shoulder 11, and at intervals and at opposite edges throughout 50 the vertical length of said flange there are formed screw-receiving slots 12.

represents the shelf-section, and it, like other remaining portions of the bracket, is preferably formed of cast metal, and is provided at its center with a countersunk recess 55 14, having a transverse slot 15 of such a size as to admit of the introduction of the lug 9, formed on the brace. A circular flange 25 depends from around the slot 15 and fits in the depression 8. At the rear edges of the shelf 60 are formed rearwardly-projecting lugs 16, which, when the shelf is in position, bear against the wall or other support and serve to brace the same. To the right and left of a line drawn transversely through the center of 65 the shelf there are formed near each side and upon the undersurface thereof inwardlydisposed binding-lugs 17.

To mount the shelf upon the brace, the two are put in line with each other and the lug 9 70 introduced into the countersunk recess of the shelf. Now, by turningthe shelf to a position at right angles to its original position, the ends of the lug rest upon the edges of the slotted countersunk recess, and the opposite 75 lugs 17 take under the transverse flange formed upon the upper edge of the brace. When in this position a longitudinal bead 18, formed upon the rear edge of the shelf, takes into the shoulder or recess formed in the meet- 80 ing angle of the flange of the brace. It now simply remains to introduce the lower end of the flange of the brace within the lugs of the upper bracket and lower the bracket until the lugs of the second supporting-bracket receive 85 said flange.

Additional rigidity may be given the structure by inserting screws in the screw-slots mentioned.
