To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, John L. Coles and David H. Coles, both citizens of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of 5 Kings and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sinkers for Fishing-Tackle, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a sinker for fishio ing-tackle, said sinker being so arranged that it can be made lighter or heavier without being removed from the line, as set forth in the following specification and claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in 15 which—

The sinker is shown as consisting of two parts, A B, j oined by screw-threads. The line 25 C passes through the sinker. The sinker has at its lower end a cavity, D', and scallops or recesses D, extending radially in the outer edge of the ivall of the cavity, into which the line C can sink when the sinker scrapes over the 30 bottom, thus saving the line from chafing on the bottom.

When it is desired to increase*the.weight of the sinker, the parts A B are screwed apart and one or more disks or sections, E, are 35 placed between the parts A B, and said sections E and parts A B being then screwed together will form a sinker of increased weight. As the sections E have slots F, said sections can be slipped on or off the line 0 without 40 dismounting the parts A B, or either of them, from the line. It is only necessary to make one part, A or B, mo vable or slidable along the line C, so that when the parts A B are disconnected the movable part of the sinker can 45 be separated sufficiently from the other part by sliding along the line C to enable the disks or sections E to be placed between the parts A B and to be screwed in place.

To diminish the weight of the sinker, the sinker part B can be unscrewed from the disk 50 E, to which it is connected, after which one or more disks can be unscrewed and slipped off the line. The part B being then replaced or screwed in place, a sinker of diminished weight is obtained. As the part B and disks 55 E are readily rotatable on the line, said part B and disks F can be readily screwed into place and unscrewed without twisting the line.

The disks E and sinker parts A B are hoi- 60 low or perforated to allow the line C to readily pass through said disks and sinker parts.
