' ->-«.-·- -. a * sachusetts, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Paper Bags, of which the following is a description sufficiently full, clear, and exact to enable any person skilled in the art or science to which said invention appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which—

In forming the bag from the blank A, as described, it is laid flat in the position shown in Fig. 2 and the bottom piece II bent inward on the line m against the side portion, B, assuming the position represented in Fig. 3, its pasted’ side h being uppermost. The righthand side piece D is then folded over the line v against the pasted side h of the bottom piece H, which adheres thereto. . My invention relates more especially to a paper bag having a double or re-enforced bottom; and it consists in certain novel features, as hereinafter fully set forth and claimed, the object being to produce a simpler, cheaper, and more desirable article of this character than is now in ordinary use.

The nature and operation of the improvement will be readily understood by all conversant with such matters from the following explanation.

In the drawings, A represents the blank, considered as a whole. The blank is creased on two parallel transverse folding-lines, z v, dividing it into a body portion, B, and side pieces, D, and also on a longitudinal foldingline, m, near its lower edge, dividing or setting off bottom pieces, G H. \ It will readily be seen that by constructing the bag as described I am enabled to greatly 85 strengthen it at the bottom, which is provided with two thicknesses of paper on each side thereof, as shown in Fig. 7, thus rendering it much more durable and less liable to tear than when constructed with three layers of paper at one side of the bottom and a single thickness at the opposite side. Moreover, in my improved bag there are no loose parts left -in the interior of the bottom portion to catch and retain the contents thereof, as sometimes occurs in the use of ordinary bags of this character.

In the modification shown in Figs. 8 and 9 the edges v z of the bag are bent inward to form a square side. This leaves a triangular flap, K, at each lower corner of the bag, which is pasted on its upper face and bent on a line against the side, where it is secured. This forms a bag which, is rectangular in shape,
