To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Richard H. Bachlott, Jr., of Savannah, in the county of Chatham and State of Georgia, have invented a certain 5 new and useful Improvement in a Combined Lamp Stand or Support and Clamp; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to io which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.

My invention relates to an improvement in a combined lamp stand or support and clamp; 15 and it consists in, first, the combination of a suitable clamp, which is to be secured to a suitable support, and a revolving notched head, which is pivoted upon the clamp and which is provided with a series of holes and 20 openings, which extend at right angles to each other, the spring-catch for holding the head in any desired position, the jointed arms, which are supported at their inner ends by the revolving head, and the stand, which is pivoted 25 upon the outer end of the arm; second, the combination of the bracket, shelf,’ or support, which is provided with two slots, the two clamps, which move in these slots, the Lshaped levers, which are connected to the clamps, the 30 operating-rods, and the lever provided with a catch for moving the clamps, as will be more fully described hereinafter.

The object of my invention is to provide a lamp-bracket which can be attached to a sup35 port in any position, and to attach to the shelf or support upon which the lamp is placed an adjustable clamp, whereby the lamp can be held in position so that there is no danger of knocking it off.

Figure 1 is a side elevation of a device embodying my invention complete. Fig. 2 is an inverted view of the same. Fig. 3 is a perspective of the revolving head, showing the openings extending in different directions.

A represents a suitable clamp, which can be secured to any support, whether in ahorizontal or a vertical position, and which can be made to catch overthe edgeof a table, shelf, or other suitable device of that kind, or'over a flange, 50 whether in a vertical or in a horizontal position. The movable block B, which is operated by the screw C, is faced with any soft suitable material, as are the other parts of the clamp, so that the table or other support will not be injured by having the clamp secured to them. 55 The inner end of the movable block B is provided with a small projection, which catches in a suitable slot formed in the body of the clamp, for the purpose of preventing the block from revolving while the screw is being turned. 60 Upon the outer side of the clamp are formed suitable ears or projections, D, in between which the head E is pivoted. This head E has a series of notches formed in the edge of that portion which catches between the earD, 65 and its outer end has an opening, F, made through both its edges and outer side, as shown, so that the arms G can be attached to the head, no matter in what direction it may extend. In order to lock this head in posi- 70 tion,the spring-catch His provided,and which engages at its inner end with the notch in the head E, so as to lock the head in any desired position.

If the clamp is secured tothe edge of a table, 75 shelf, or other support which extends horizontally, the edge of the revolving head will be uppermost, and the projection or tenon on the inner end of the inner arm, G, will catch in the opening or socket in the edge of the 80 head. If the clamp is fastened to a flange, molding, or other support which projects vertically,but extends horizontally, the head will be uppermost and the tenon will catch in the socket in the outer side of the head; but if the 85 clamp is fastened to a flange which extends vertically, then one side of the head will extend upward. Thus it will be seen that by making sockets in all four edges and in the outer side of the head the clamp can be at- 9c tached in any suitable position, and will answer equally as well, there being no change of parts,except to shift the tenon on the inner end of the inner arm from one socket to another. 9The shelf or bracket I, upon which the lamp is placed, can be of any suitable shape, and is provided with the two slots J, which are placed upon opposite sides of the center and extend in a straight line with each other. Placed in 100 these sockets J are the two clamps L, which are of a suitable shape for catching over opposite sides of the base of the lamp, and which are connected at their inner ends with the

367,175 rods O, which extend past each other in opposite directions and are attached at their opposite ends from the clamps to the two angular levers P, pivoted on the under side of the 5 shelf. The shorter ends of these levers P arc connected by the connecting-rods Q, to the rod R, which extends through the projection on the under side of the shelf, and is connected at its other end to the operating-lever S. To io the under side of the lever S is connected a catch, T, of any suitable construction, which engages with one of a series-of notches, TJ, formed in the under side of the shelf or bracket. This spring-catch moves freely in one 15 direction over the ratchets or recesses U, but catches when moved in the opposite direction. AVhen thelever is moved inwardly toward the center of the shelf or bracket,the two clamps L are moved away from each other, and when 20 the outer end of the lever S is moved outward the two clamps are forced inward toward each other, so as to catch over opposite edges of the base of the lamp, and thus hold it securely in position upon the shelf or bracket. This shelf or bracket revolves freely upon the arms, and the arms can be turned freely in any direction that may be desired. . 3°
