To all whom it may concern;

Be it known that I, Louis Heyligenstaedt, of the town of Giessen, in the Great Dukedom of Hessen and German Empire, have 5 invented certain new and useful Improvements in Machines for Packing Materials in Tubs, Casks, and Barrels, of which I declare the following to be a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in a io machine for packing tubs, casks, barrels, and other similar vessels.

In packing small-grained or powdered material it is of great value to obtain a tight packing; I therefore produce a machine by 15 which, by shaking the barrels, tubs, and casks, I obtain the desired result.

Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a longitudinal elevation of my device on line x x, Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same, the 2o floor being removed.

My said invention consists, chiefly, in a table, d, resting on a spring-board, &, and lifted by a lever, a, to return afterward by gravity to its former position. The tub or the cask 25 put on the table will receive a shaking, in consequence of which the material put into the same will settle of itself. The lifting of the lever a is worked through a wiper, c, fixed on an axle, e, rotated by means of cog-wheels e' 30 ou driving-axles e g, which are revolved by suitable means'. The axles e and g turn in the opposite directions. The wiper 0 lifts the lever a, and with it the spring-board b and the table d resting on it. After the wiper c has left the lever a the latter returns to its former 35 position with the table d, in consequence of their weight and that of the cask or tub and its contents resting on the table. The shaking of the cask effects the tight packing of the material. The effects of the knocks caused by 40 the cam is weakened by the spring-board b, and consequently the table d receives a vibratory movement,which is kept up continually.

Thesaid invention is of great value in manu- 45 factories of chemicals, sugar, and other similar articles which have to be packed tightly. Small-grained or powdered material can be packed through this means in casks or tubs of comparatively smaller contents more thor- 5c oughly and rapidly than by any other means known to me.
