To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Μάχιμε Bouquet, of Brooklyn, Kings county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Im5 provement in Cuff-Buttons, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to that class of sleevebuttons which aresecured to the cuff by means of a spiral, and it is described in the following io specification, and more specifically pointed out in the claim.

Figure 1 of the drawings is a piece of sheet metal which is cut ready to be bent, so as to form the shank aud attaching-plate. Figs. 2 15 and 3 show, respectively, a bottom and side view of the button completed, the shank and spiral of which are formed from the sheetmetal piece of Fig. 1.

I take a piece of sheet metal aud cut or 20 stamp from it a piece of the form shown inFig.

1. The partc is bent upward, so as to forma right angle at or about the point d. The part from d to e is then bent edgewise inward, so as to bring the angle at d about the center of 25 the curve formed by the part b. The part & all the way round to the angle d thus forms a spiral, at the center of which the part c, which is ' to form the stem of the button, projects upward.

The extension h of the part b is bent inward slightly and so that it overlaps the part between d and e, and lies substantially in contact with it, so that the extension h lias to be lifted slightly from the part of the spiral lying35 below it in order to insert the part Λ into the button-hole for the purpose of adjusting the button in the cuff. This is clearly shown in Fig. 3. The extremity of the part or stem c is soldered or otherwise properly secured to the center of the button-head «,as shown in Fig. 3, 40 and when the button is thus completed it consists substantially of two parts—namely, the head a and the stem and spiral.

My improved.sleeve-button contains many advantages, among which may be mentioned 45 the following: The spiral being made from a piece of sheet metal,comparatively little bending is required to form any part excepting turning up the shank. The result of this construction is that the metal is in its normal con- 50 dition and is much more firm and resistant to bending than in a case where the spiral is formed by bending astraight piece of metal, as, for instance, a wire. Likewise the form into which the spiral is bent makes it firm and 55 easily to be applied, while not likely to catch in other articles of wear and not likely to be accidentally detached.
