To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Pinckney F. Barr, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Marcial, in the county of Socorro and Terri5 tory of New Mexico, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rail-Braces, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings, in which— ic Figure 1 is a perspective view of my brace, and Fig. 2 a similar view of a modified form of the same.

This improvement relates to that style of brace shown in my Patent No. 297,661; and 15 the invention consists in the peculiar construction of the same, as hereinafter more particularly described, and then pointed out in the claims.

In my PatentNo. 297,661 1 describe several 20 different styles of braces, but all of them show a perpendicular side which adds very much to the expense of making without adding materially to the utility of the brace. In my present invention I dispense with this side 25 piece and yet make a brace that is almost, if not quite, as useful as those braces shown in my aforesaid patent.

Referring now to thedrawings, A represents the brace provided with a foot, a, a heel, b, 30 and an upwardly-inclined stay, e, the extreme upper part of which rests under the top of the rail while the heel presses on the top of the foot ofthe same. Each brace is provided with two spike-holes, as shown in Fig. 1, or with a 35 hole and two notches, as shown in Fig. 2, which last construction will be found very useful where the ties are ofsoft wood, asthreespikes can then be used to hold it.

Thestay c may either be made with astraight inclined under side, as shown in Fig. 1, or it 40 maybe provided with a notch at the heel, as shown in Fig. 2. By this construction it will be seen that the manufacture of the braces is very much simplified and the cost of the same materially reduced, inasmuch as there is not 45 only less workmanship, but less metal is required in each brace.
