To all zuhom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Charles Ware, of New York city, county, and State, have invented anlmprovementinNipple-ProtectorSjOfwhich 5 the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification, like letters on the drawings representing like parts.

In accordance with my invention a cap or io cover composed of glass or other suitable material-such ashard rubber—and adapted to fit over the nipple aud come to a bearing upon the breast is provided with two outlets, one to communicate with the india-rubber nipple15 piece, and the other with a tube provided with a mouth-piece, the tube being of sufficient length to have its mouth-piece placed in the mother’s mouth to exhaust the air from the cap or cover aud start the. milk into it ready 20 for the child to continue the operation by its mouth on the nipple-piece, the tube at such time being closed or collapsed.

The particular features of my invention will be pointed out in the claims at the end of this 25 specification.

The cap or cover a, preferably of glass, has 30 a foot or base, a', to rest upon the breast, an ontletsurrounded by a projection, d², on which is placed the flexible nipple-piece δ,and a tubular projection, a³, which serves as a second outlet, the said projection having secured to 35 it one end of the india-rubber tube c, supplied at its outer end with a mouth-piece, /, which, if placed in the mother’s mouth, enables her, while holding the nipple-piece closed against the passage of air, to exhaust the cap or cover 40 and start the flow of the milk, the child thereafter continuing the flow by its mouth upon the nipple-piece, the mother at such time closing the tube; and for the latter purpose the tube is herein shown as provided with a cutoff, e, such as made the subject of LettersPat- 4 ent No. 200,113; but instead of the cut-off applied externally, as shown, it is obvious that the cut-off might be madeas a valve placed in the mouth-piece or in the tube to close and prevent the flow of air into the cap or cover 5 from the tube c.

The nipple-piece is provided with a mouthguard, δ', of usual construction. '

When traveling, the cap or cover may be applied, the tube c be led out from the dress, the 5 nipifle-piece being closed, so that the child may be permitted to nurse from the tube.

The protector shown is very simple, easily cleansed, is efficient for the purpose intended, aud obviates injury to the nipple or pain dur- f ing the time allowed for nursing.
