    It is claimed and desired to secure by Letters Patent:1. A device for performing a plurality of operations on a flat strip of moving material comprising in combination a base, means for moving the material along a predetermined path over said base, a pair of relatively movable cooperating members mounted on said base one on each side of said path, means for moving each of said members substantially continuously independent of said material moving means adjacent to said path along an endless track, said members retaining a given geometrical position relative to said material while being actuated along said track and at a predetermined point during their movement along said path being actuated toward each other to cooperatively engage the material to perform an operation thereon, said members when engaging with the material moving along said path at the same speed as the material.

    A device for performing a plurality of operations on a strip of moving material comprising in combination a base, means for moving the material at a given speed along base, one of each of said pairs of tracks being mounted along a different edge of said path, means for actuating all of said tracks in unison, a pair of relatively movable cooperating heating members each mounted on and between the endless tracks of each of said pairs of tracks for continuous movement therewith on said base independent of said material moving means, said members being arranged on different sides of said path of movement of the material, means mounted on said base for holding each of said members in a given axial position during movement of said members with said tracks, said tracks being actuated to move adjacent to and along at least a part of said path, means arranged along said tracks for actuating said members each in a direction defined by a plane toward each other to cooperatively engage the material to seal the superimposed strips together, said members when engaged with the material moving along said path at the same speed as the material. 7. A sealing head for cycle operations comprising a base, two pairs of endless tracks mounted on said base, means for actuating said tracks, a pair of relatively movable cooperating sealing members, one of said members being attached to and extending between each of said pairs of tracks, and means extending between each of said members for arranging said members in a common plane and providing a path for movement of said members relative to each other, said means moving with said members along said tracks. 8. A sealing head for cycle operations comprising a base, two pairs of endless tracks mounted on said base, means for actuating said tracks, a pair of relatively movable cooperating sealing members, one of said members being attached to and extending between each of said pairs of tracks, means extending between and through each of said members for arranging said members in a common plane and providing a path for movement of said members relative to each other, said means moving with said members along said tracks, and means mounted on said tracks for retaining each of said members in a given 40 axial position during operation of the sealing head. 9. A sealing head for cycle operations comprising a base, two pairs of endless tracks mounted on said base, means for actuating said tracks, a pair of relatively movable cooperating sealing members, one of said members 45 being attached to and extending between each of said pairs of tracks, means extending substantially perpendicularly to and through each of said members for arranging said members in a common plane and providing a path for movement of said members relative to each 50 other, said means moving with said members along said tracks, and means mounted on said tracks for retaining each of said members in a given axial position during operation of the sealing head. 10. A sealing head for cycle operations comprising a 55 base, two pairs of endless tracks mounted on said base, means for actuating said tracks, a pair of relatively movable cooperating sealing members, one of said members being attached to and extending between each of said pairs of tracks, a pair of rods, each of said rods extending 60 between and through a different end of each of said members for arranging said members in a common plane and providing a path for movement of said members relative to each other, said rods moving with said members along said tracks, and means mounted on said tracks for re65 taining each of said members in a given axial position during operation of the sealing head. 11. A sealing head for cycle operations along a predetermined path comprising a base, two pairs of endless tracks mounted on said base, means for actuating said 70 tracks, one of said pairs of tracks being mounted on each side of said path, a pair of relatively movable cooperating sealing members, one of said members being attached to and extending between each of said pairs of tracks for movement therewith, means extending between each of 75 said members for arranging said members in a common

    3,140,:5 a predetermined path on said base, a pair of relatively movable cooperating members each mounted on an endless track on said base for movement therewith, one of said tracks being arranged on each side of said path for movement adjacent to and along at least a part of said 5 path, means for actuating each of said track continuously independent of said material moving means and in unison, said members retaining a given geometrical position relative to said material upon movement of said tracks, said members at a predetermined point during their movement 10 along said part of said path each being actuated toward each other in a direction defined by a plane to cooperatively engage the material to perform an operation thereon, said members when engaged with the material moving along said path at the same speed as the material. 15 3. A device for performing a plurality of operations on a strip of moving material comprising in combination a base, means for moving the material at a given speed along a predetermined path on said base, a pair of relatively movable cooperating members each mounted on 20 an endless track means for movement therewith on said base, one track means being arranged on each side of said path, means for moving each track means substantially continuously independent of said material moving means adjacent to and along at least a part of said path, means 25 arranged along each said track means for actuating said members toward each other in a common plane to cooperatively engage the material, said members retaining a given geometrical position relative to said material upon movement of said track means, said members when en- 30 gaged with the material moving along said path at the same speed as the material.

    A device for performing a plurality of operations on a strip of moving material comprising in combination a base, means for moving the material at a given speed along a predetermined path on said base, a pair of relatively movable cooperating members each mounted on an endless track means for movement therewith on said base, one track means being arranged on each side of said predetermined path for movement along a substantially elliptical path, means for moving each track means continuously independent of said material moving means and in unison adjacent to and along at least a part of said predetermined path, means mounted on said track means for retaining said members in a given geometrical position relative to said material during movement of said track means around said elliptical path, means arranged along each said track means for holding said members in a common plane and for actuating said members in said plane toward each other to cooperatively engage the material, said members when engaged with the material moving along said path at the same speed as the material.

    A device for performing a plurality of operations on a pair of superimposed flat strips of moving material comprising in combination a base, means for moving the material at a given speed along a predetermined path on said base, a pair of relatively movable cooperating heating members each mounted on an endless track means for movement therewith on said base, one track means being arranged on each side of said path, means for moving each of said track means independent of said material moving means in unison adjacent to and along at least a part of said path, means mounted on said base for retaining each of said members in a given geometrical position relative to said material during movement of said members with said track means, means arranged along each said track means for actuating said members toward each other to cooperatively engage the material to seal the superimposed strips together.

    A device for performing a plurality of operations on a pair of superimposed flat strips of moving material comprising in combination a base, means for moving the material at a given speed along a predetermined path on said base, two pairs of endless tracks mounted on said 3,140,218 plane and providing a guide for movement of said members relative to each other and transversely to said path, said means moving with said members along said tracks, and pivotal means mounted on said tracks for retaining each of said members in a given axial position during operation of the sealing head. 12. A sealing head for cycle operations along a predetermined path comprising a base, two pairs of endless tracks mounted on said base, one of said pairs of tracks being mounted on each side of said path, means for actuating said tracks, a pair of relatively movable cooperating sealing members, one of said members being attached to and extending between each of said pairs of tracks for movement therewith, means extending between and substantially perpendicularly to each of said members for arranging said members in a common plane, said means providing a guide for movement of said members relative to each other and transversely to said path, said means moving with said members along said tracks, and pivotal means mounted on said tracks for retaining each of said members in a given axial position during operation of the sealing head. 13. A sealing head for cycle operations along a predetermined path comprising a base, two pairs of endless tracks mounted on said base, one of said pairs of tracks being mounted on each side of said path, means for actuating said tracks, a pair of relatively movable cooperating sealing members, one of said members being attached to and extending between each of said pairs of tracks for movement therewith, a pair of rods, each of said rods extending between and through a different end of each of said members for arranging said members in a common plane, said means providing a guide for movement of said members relative to each other and transversely to said path, said means moving with said members along said tracks, and pivotal means connecting said members to said tracks for retaining each of said members in a given axial position during operation of the sealing head. 14. A sealing head for cycle operations along a predetermined path comprising a base, two pairs of endless tracks mounted on said base, one of said pairs of tracks being mounted on each side of said path, means for actuating said tracks, a pair of relatively movable cooperating sealing members, one of said members being attached to and extending between each of said pairs of tracks for movement therewith, means extending between each of said members for arranging said members in a common plane, said means providing a guide for reciprocal movement of said members relative to each other transversely to said path, said means moving with said members along said tracks, and pivotal means connecting each of said members to said tracks for retaining said members in one axial position during a cycle operation of the sealing head. 15. A device for performing a plurality of operations on a flat strip of moving material comprising in combination a base, means for moving the material along a predetermined path over said base, a pair of relatively movable cooperating members mounted on said base one on each side of said path, means for moving each of said members adjacent to said path along an endless track, said members retaining substantially a given geometrical position relative to said material while being actuated along said track and at a predetermined point during their movement along said path being actuated toward each other to cooperatively engage the material to perform an operation thereon, said members when engaging with the material moving along said path at the same speed as the material. 16. A device for performing a plurality of operations on a flat strip of moving material comprising in combination a base, means for moving the material along a predetermined path over said base, a pair of relatively movable cooperating members mounted on said base one on each side of said path, means for moving each of said members adjacent to said path along an endless track, said members at a predetermined point during their movement along said path being actuated toward each other to cooperatively engage the material to perform an operation thereon, said members when moving along said endless path and separated from said material retaining substantially a given geometrical position.
