To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, William L. Brown, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fennimore, in the county of Grant and State of Wis5 consin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Iron Sleds, (Sleighs;) and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it apio pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

My invention relates to a certain manner of constructing the runners and braces of sleds, of a single piece of wrought-iron,bent as will be described, thereby forming a cheap, simple, light, and strong sled, adapted for all usual purposes.

In the drawing I have shown a perspective view of my improved sled inverted.

A represents the rear cross-piece which sustains the seat or bottom of the sled at that end.

This piece is formed by the middle portion of the continuous rod or bar which is used in the construction. The two portions of said rod intermediate between said middle portion aud the ends are bent as shown to form the rear upright supports, B B, the runners C C, the front curved supporting-braces, c c, and the duplicate cross-pieces E E, for sustaining the seat at the forward end, which pass one another and are bent downward at each end and 35 secured to the runners where the rod terminates. The two ends of the bar or rod used thus constitute uprights at the forward part of the sled, which aid the parts c in supporting the load, and materially stiffen and 40 strengthen the structure.

It is convenient and desirable,in the course of forming the sled, to bend the iron so as to form the eyes c' c' for the attachment of draft devices. Before crossing the sled at the forward end the rod may run parallel to the sides 45 of the sled for a distance, as shown at D.
