PERSONALIZED LABEL KIT
Reese Baker, 419 E. La Palma, Anaheim, Calif. Filed May 28,1962, Ser. No. 198,173
Claims. (Cl. 282—1) . This invention relates to a personalized label kit and in general to the placing upon a label or other impression receiving element of an impression from a coated sheet, such as a thin flexible sheet having a coating of gold leaf or other suitable impression producing material.
More specifically, the invention relates to a kit including a label to receive an impression such as a signature, a thin flexible sheet haying an impression transfer substance thereon and a windowed panel overlying the thin flexible sheet and the label, the aperture having a particular size and positional relationship to the label so that impressions placed upon the thin flexible sheet through the aperture will be transferred to the label and will appear on the label well within its confines and in the desired position.
Additionally, means is provided on the body of the kit, which carries the label, the transfer medium and the aperture, whereby the impression to be made can first be practiced on the body of the device in a defined space identical to that of the aperture, so that the user can determine whether the signature or other writing will properly fit within the confines of the aperture, and also be properly displayed upon the label.
A further object of the invention is to provide a label having convenient means for attaching it to the article for which it is intended, such means for example being a pressure-sensitive adhesive, a part of which is initially used to removably secure the label in the kit in proper position to receive an impression.
The above and other objects and advantages will more fully appear from the following description in connection with the accompany drawing, in which:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the kit in closed position;
FIG. 2 is a section taken approximately on the line 2—2 of FIG. 1;
FIG. 3 is a perspective view of the body of the kit opened; and
FIG. 4 is a perspective view of the rear side of the label.
The kit includes a panel body 6 having a front section 8 and a rear section 10. The body may be formed of stiff paper, plastic or other suitable material. The free 50 longitudinal edges of the body sections are provided with slits 12 and 14, which as shown in FIG. 1, may be utilized to separably secure the panel body in its folded condition, the body material adjacent the two slits being inserted in the slit of the opposite body section.
The front body section 8 is provided with an elongated rectangular aperture or window 16. On the rear of the front section 8 and spanning the aperture 16 is a thm flexible sheet 18, which may be of paper or plastic, and on the bottom of the sheet 18 is a layer 20 of an 60 impression transferring substance, such as a very thin layer of gold. The thin flexible sheet 18 may be adhesively secured to the rear face of the front section 8 by a suitable adhesive.
The front or upper face of the rear panel body section 10 has a label 22 mounted thereon whose upper surface 23 may be provided with a suitable coating having a satin finish of a color contrasting to the gold or other color of the impression transfer substance 20. For example, a non-glossy black ink can be provided for the coating 23 on the label 22.
The rear side of the label 22 is provided with an adhesive coating 24 which preferably is a pressure-sensitive material. Removably adhered to the pressure-sensitive coating 24 are protective strips 26 which may be of a thin plastic, such as cellophane. It is noted that the protective strips 26 are of such size that they leave a portion of the pressure-sensitive coating 24 exposed, leaving a transverse portion 28 of the pressure-sensitive material which can be utilized to removably secure the label 22 to the rear panel body section 12 in the position indicated in FIG. 3.
As shown, when the panel body sections 8 and 10 are folded one over the other, the window or aperture 16 will overlie the label 22, as indicated by the broken line 16A in FIG. 3. As shown, the aperture area 16A is smaller than the area of the label 22 so that an impression made upon the thin flexible transverse sheet 18 will be confined to the area 16A. This permits the printing of indicia such as indicated at 30 when the label is originally made up and before sale, and prevents the user of the kit from making impressions which would overlap or run into the previously imposed indicia 30.
On the front face of the front panel body section 8, a rectangle 32 may be indicated by a printed line. This is of the same size as the aperture 16. Before the user places an impression on the label by impressing the thin flexible transverse sheet 18, he can practice the indicia to be impressed within the area 32 to determine if the indicia, such as a signature, will fit within the area and consequently will fit within the aperture 16 and the desired portion of the label 22.
Transfer of the impression may be made with a smooth pointed object such as a pencil point or the point of a ball pen. Where, for example, gold is used for the transfer and impression creating substance, the signature or other indicia will appear in that color on the contrasting background provided by the coating 24 on the upper surface of the label 22. The kit can then be opened as in FIG. 3, the label stripped from the panel body section 10, the protective strips 26 on the rear of the label removed, and the pressure-sensitive coating 28 of the label pressed against an article of personal use, such as a coat or tie hanger.
It will of course be understood that various changes can be made in the form, details, arrangement and proportions of the device without departing from the spirit of the invention.
