Seated in the upper end 14 of the wedge block member 13 is an axially-extending cylindrical lipstick cartridge 15. Push button means for raising the block member 13 and the lipstick 15 out of the casing 11 is also provided, the same comprising a generally square push button 16 which extends through a square opening in the front wall 17 of the outer casing 11 near the lower end thereof. The push button 16 is formed with upper and lower lips 18 and 19 respectively which bear against inner wall portions of the outer casing 11 to retain said push button in place.

Arranged within the outer casing 11 and extending along the inside of the front wall 17 thereof, is an elongated, wedge-shaped finger 20, (see Fig. 8). The lower end of the finger 20 is constrained against the inside of the front wall 17 of the casing 11 by means of a coiled curved horizontal compression spring 21. The spring 21 is seated at one end in a cylindrical recess 22 at the lower end of the finger 20 and abuts with its other end against the back wall 23 of the casing 11, (see Figs. 4 and 5). The finger 20 is rounded at its upper end, as indicated at 24, and when the wedge block 31 is withdrawn into the casing 11, as illustrated in Figs. 1, 2 and 4, said finger rests against the inclined surface 25 of said block 13 near the upper end thereof. Thus, when me push button 16 is depressed by the thumb, while holding the lipstick case in one hand, the finger 20 will be rocked inwardly about the lower lip 19 of said push button, causing the top 24 to slide along the inclined surface 25 of the wedge block 13 to force the lipstick cartridge 15 out of the top of the casing 11, as illustrated in Figs. 3 and 5.

Means is further provided for covering the open end of the casing 11 when the lipstick case is not in use 35 the same comprising an L-shaped cover 26 having a top portion 27 and a side portion 28. The outer end of the top portion 27 of the cover 26 is hinged at 28α to the upper end of the back wall 23 of the casing H.

^¹..^be.ⁱⁿ^^ensiv® ⁴⁰ !°P Se top portion 27 thereof will enclose the upper opening of said casing and the side portion 28 will lie in slightly spaced relation with respect to the front wadi 17 of said casing. The lower end of the side portion 28 of the cover 26 is provided with a round depressing rib 30, (see Figs. 4, 5 and 7); and when said cover is closed, said rib will 50 ^S?^ap “^{to a com}Plementary round groove 31 formed along the top of the push button 16 and spaced from the hp 18 to securely lock the cover in place and prevent it trom opening accidentally.

Mechanism is also provided for raising the cover 26 55 when the push button 16 is actuated, the same comprising a pair of articulated, arcuate link members 32 33 connected together by a pin 33α and pivoted at their free ends to the wedge block 13 and the top portion 27 ox said cover respectively.

. This invention relates to cosmetic accessories and is directed particularly to improvements in lipstick cases of the type wherein mechanism is provided for ejecting the lipstick from its container case.

Lipstick cases wherein a lipstick cartridge is supported on a base member arranged within an outer container or casing and which can be raised for using the lipstick by means of a straight or spiral guide slot between the base and the outer container are known. Such lipstick cases heretofore devised however, have all required the use of two hands to raise the lipstick into its position for use.

It is accordingly the principal object of this invention to provide an improved lipstick case having means for opening the outer container and raising the lipstick in one operation and by the use of only one hand,

Another object of this invention is to provide an improved lipstick case of the above nature wherein the case cover is provided with a mirror which when said cover is open, aids the user to apply the lipstick to her face.

Still another object of this invention is to provide a lipstick case of the character described including automatic means for locking the cover to prevent accidental opening when carried in a purse or handbag.

The lipstick will remain in its raised position after release of the push button 16, being held in such position by the weight of the cover 26.

When the user is through using the lipstick, the cover 26 will manually be swung into closed position, which can conveniently be done by the fingers of one hand, whereupon said cover will be snap-locked in place in the groove 31 in the push button 16. The entire operation thus can expeditiously be carried out with one hand, being a great convenience when hurriedly applying lipstick, while the other hand is occupied in holding a handbag or other articles.

While there has been disclosed herein only one form in which the invention may conveniently be embodied in practice, it is to be understood that this form is presented by way of example only and not in a limiting sense. In short, the invention is limited only by the scope and spirit of the following claims.
