To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Elias Hoxie, a citizen in the United States, residing at Red Creek, of the county of Wayne and State of New York, 5 have invented certain new and useful Iinprovements in Thill-Couplings, of which the following is. a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

This invention has relation to improve10 ments in thill-couplings, and it is an improvement on Letters Patent granted to me on the 21st day of February, 1882, by the United States, and numbered 254,016; and the invention consists in the construction and novel ar15 rangement of a pressure-rod adjustably applied to the under side of the thills and adapted to bear against the coupling-bolt, whereby rattling of said coupling is prevented.

- The annexed drawings, to which reference 20 is made, fully illustrate my invention, in xvhich Figure 1 represents a vertical sectional x’iew of my device, and Fig. 2 is a detail view of the rod.

Referring by letter to the accompanying 25 drawings, A. designates the thill-iron, having a hook end, a, that connects xvith the transverse bolt b of the coupling. Beneath the coupling-iron A, and running parallel therexvith, is rod c, one end, //, of xvhich is flat and 30 passes within the hook or opening a', and bears against the bolt aforesaid,while the forxvard end of said rod is round, and provided xvith screw-threads d, upon xvhich is placed an adjusting-nut, e, that bears against a lug, /, 35 .which is rigid with the thill-iron, and laterally perforated to receive the forward end Of the rod aforesaid.

It will be seen by the above description and by reference to the annexed drawings, that when the adjusting-nut is screwed against the 40 lug the rod is forced rearwardly, at the same time the hook on the thill-iron is brought forward, thus clamping between them the coupling-bolts, thereby securing the parts to one another, taking up wear upon the same and 45 preventing rattling, and a thill-coupling constructed as herein described is easily applied and detached, and it is durable and cheap to manufacture.
