The present invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in a holder which is especially, but not necessarily, adapted to support, clamp and hold a waste basket or an equivalent receptacle.

An object of the invention is to provide a simple, practical and economical holder which when in use will serve to support a waste basket in an appropriate out-ofthe-way position and preferably elevated above the floor or other surface in a manner to more satisfactorily cope with dripping from damp and wet foods and waste products and to in this manner reduce to a minimum the accumulation or attraction of ants and other insects.

Another object of the invention is to provide a waste basket holder which lends itself to installation on the inside of a door in a cabinet beneath a kitchen sink or a similarly constructed and performing cabinet in a bathroom or other places where space is limited and a waste basket is needed.

A further object of the invention is to structurally, functionally and otherwise improve upon brackets, racks, shelves and so on which have been offered by others in attempting to aptly and effectually solve the space problem and other requirements attending the supporting and handling of waste baskets and similar receptacles in the home and elsewhere.

Briefly, the invention in its preferred embodiment is characterized by a wall-type fixture. The fixture, in turn, has a foot or an equivalent member to support the bottom of the waste basket. The upper portion of the waste basket is embraced by an appropriate metal or an equivalent flat-faced band. The ends of the band over- ⁴⁵lap and provide an adjustable and detachable connection between themselves and an upper portion of the fixture. A simple, insertable and removable wedge makes the attachment of the band-ends to the fixture easy and practical. CO

Other objects, features and advantages will become more readily apparent from the following description of the details, the views in the drawing and the claims.

The waste basket or equivalent receptacle which is to be hung and supported is denoted by the numeral 4. 55 A principal part of the holder is the bracket or fixture 6 and equally important is the clamp 8. The fixture is characterized by a plastic, metal' or an equivalent hollow base. In elevation, the base may be said to be vertically elongated. It comprises a plate or web portion 10 hav- 70 ing a pair of laterally bent, longitudinal side flanges 12 and similar bent upper and lower transverse or end flanges 14 and 16. A suitable portion of the plate is indented at 18 and provided with a hole for an attaching screw or similar fastener 19. The indentation accommodates the head of the screw so that it will not interfere with the portion of the wall of the basket 4 which rests against the plate. At the bottom the plate is provided with a rest which may be described as a foot 20 and it is atop this that the bottom of the basket rests. Experimental models have shown that it is possible to strike a portion or tongue out and to bend it into a horizontal position to function as the foot 20. There is a centrally disposed opening 22 in the top flange to accommodate the insertable and removable retaining wedge 24. Rectangular slots 26 and 28 are provided in the side flanges just below the level of the end flange 14, and these serve to accommodate the end portions 30 and 32 of the resilient metal' or equivalent clamping band 34. This band is referred to broadly as a detachable and adjustable clamp and obviously it functions to encircle or embrace the upper portion of the waste basket. The ends of the band are passed through the aligned slots 26 and 28 and in fact beyond the slots in the manner shown in Figs. 1 and 3 where they are in position to be bound frictionally when the wedge is inserted. In other words, when the wedge is passed down through the hole 22, one edge bears against the surface of the plate as seen in Fig. 2 and the other edge binds against the adjacent band-ends. Consequently, the band-ends are pressed frictionally and firmly together and are bound in their respective slots 26 and 28. The band-ends are bowed slightly as seen in Fig. 3, and the bowed portions span the space between the flanges 12.

As before mentioned, a fixture and band when constructed and assembled in the manner herein disclosed provide a highly satisfactory and an efficient holder for a receptacle such as a waste basket, garbage pail or similar container.

A careful consideration of the specification in conjunction with the drawing will enable the reader to obtain a clear understanding of the construction and use of the invention. Therefore, a more extensive description is believed to be unnecessary.

Changes in shape, size, materials and rearrangement of parts coming within the spirit of the invention and scope of the invention as claimed may be resorted to in actual practice without departing from the inventive concept.
