To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Frederick Gesking, of Grand Rapids, in the county of Kent and State of Michigan, have invented a new and 5 useful Improvement in Folding Tables, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The object of my invention is to provide a folding or “knockdown” table of simplified io construction, to which end my invention consists in a hinged brace of novel construction, and its combination with a table provided with folding legs, as hereinafter described and claimed.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of my im20 proved table. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the table-brace. Fig. 3 is a cross-section of the brace.

A is the top of the table, which is provided on its under side with hinged legs B B'. The 25 leg B'is hinged directly to the table-top, while the leg B is hinged to a strip, «, the object being that, when folded, the legs shall lie one upon the other. Each leg is provided in its lower or outer end and upon the inside with 30 apertured clutch-plates b b, with which the end hooks, c, of the brace D engage. The brace or cross-piece D is made of the two parts d d', which are attached together by a hinge at e, so that the two parts can be folded to35 gether. The part d' is fitted with side plates, / which form a recess for the end of the part d, and serve to sustain the brace laterally. Upon the part d is also fitted a turning button or plate, g, which, when turned parallel with the brace, serves to make the joint rigid and to ψ prevent any bending movement of the brace.

I On one end of the button or plateg is a catch, / for taking over a flange or lug, i, provided on the part d, so as to hold the brace more rigidly and to prevent any movement of the 4 joint.

- The table is set up by turning^- down the legs B B', then applying the brace by entering the hooks c into the clutch-plates b, after which the button g is turned to position for holding << the brace rigid.

By this construction the table can be quickly set up and taken down, and when set up the table will be firm and will present a good appearance.

The brace D is also provided with hooks I at one or both ends for engagement with eyes upon the legs B B' to assist in holding the brace more firmly in place.
