Patented June 5, 1956 through the parts 4, 5 of the photo camera 6 to be kept in the case, when the camera is positioned for use.

Furthermore, the case shows a wall section 7 bulging outward and adapted to cover the opening 3. This wall 5 section 7 is connected with the case body 1. For this purpose the wall section 7 is flexibly connected at 8 with an extension 9 which is again flexibly connected at 10 with an extension 11 connected to the wall 12 of the case body opposite to the opening 3. This connection may be 10 established by means of the lower part of a snap fastener 13, by way of example, preferably in such a way that the extension 11 of the wall section 7 is able to be movable due to the strap 17 and the lower part of the snap fastener 13, the further function of which will be explained below. ¹⁵ The hinge joints at 8 and 10 may be provided by flutings, by way of example, in the leather or another material of which the case is made.

The case, furthermore, shows a cap 14 flexibly connected with the wall section 7 and adapted to be secured ²⁸. on the case body 1 on the side opposite to the bottom 2. The cap consists of a front or top wall 15 and a rim 16 running around. This rim is preferably all in one piece with the front wall 15 and its about perpendicular thereto.

To keep the cap 14 in its closed position there is pro25 vided a strap 17 arranged on the cap so as to be preferably flexibly connected therewith. At the free end of the strap 17 there is provided the top part 18 of a snap fastener, which can be pressed into the above mentioned bottom part 13 of the snap fastener so that the cap is retained ³⁸ in its closed position.

The flexible connections of the wall section 7 and the strap 17, on the one hand, with the cap 14, on the other hand, are established by extensions 17' of the strap and 7' of the wall section, respectively, which are connected with the cap in a way as will be described below, and between which and the strap 17 or the wall section 7, respectively, there may be provided grooves 19 or 20, respectively, to provide for the relative movement between the strap and section 7.

⁴⁸ The case, furthermore, has a channel-like oval metallic frame 21 which is U-shaped gripping over the edge of the rim 16 and being forced by pressure thereon. This metallic frame 21 is provided with enlarged channel wall sections 22 on its opposite sides of the inner channel walls 45 23, as is apparent from Figs. 3 and 5. The metallic frame may be made of plated sheet metal material or plated brass sheet, by way of example.

Preferably, three enlarged channel wall sections 22 are provided, viz. two for securing the extension 7' of 50 the wall section 7 to the cap 14, and one for fixing the extension 17' of the strap 17 to the cap 14. These channel wall sections 22 have tongues 24 stamped out therefrom in such a way that one end 24' of each tongue is integral with the appertaining channel wall section 22. 55 The tongues 24 are preferably stamped out so as to be movable in the longitudinal direction of the metallic frame. The extension 17' of the strap 17 and the extension 7' of the wall section 7 have two slots 25 each, by means of which they are fixed upon the tongues 24, and 60 which have been reset again into the plane of the channel wall section 22, so that the extension 17' of the strap 17 and the extension 7' of the wall section 7 are rigidly connected with the cap 14 by means of the tongues 24 and the metallic frame 21. The number of the enlarged _β5 channel wall sections and of the tongues is a matter of choice.

The inside of the case is lined with fabric, e. g. velvet 29, being secured on the inner surfaces of the case and the cap, so that the fastenings of the wall sections 7 γθ and the strap 17 to the cap 14 are invisible.

The invention elates to a case, particularly an ever ready case for photo cameras. Cases of this kind are usually made of leather or imitation material. The case substantially consists of a case body and a cap which is linked to a hinged wall section of the case body and can be retained in its closed position by means of a strap and fixing means for the strap arranged on the case body.

An object of the invention is to make the cap which is made of leather, so that its rim is provided with a protective member as a stamped member to prevent the rim from being damaged.

Another object of the invention is to improve the connection of the cap to the hinged portion of the case body on the one hand, and, the connection of the strap to the cap, on the other hand.

Another object of the invention is to provide a metallic frame which is channelled having a U-shaped cross, section and running around the rim of the cap which is forced by pressure into the channel of the frame. This metallic frame serves to connect the strap and the hinged portion of the case body rigidly but flexibly to the cap so that tearing will be impossible. For this end the metallic frame is provided with specific fixing means.

These and other objects of the invention will be seen in the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings in which;

The case, particularly the ever ready case for photocameras, has a flat shell-like body 1 and a bottom 2 fixed to the front side of the case body. The cross section of the shell-like flat case body represents a rectangle with adjacent semi-circular areas on its small ends. The one even side of the case body 1 has an opening 3 for passing

2,748,822 the strap 17 to the cap 14 differs from the first example. Therefore, all parts of the case not showing this variation are marked by corresponding reference numbers as in Figs. 1 to 5, however, 100 is added to each of the reference numbers. 5

In this second example there are also provided enlarged inner channel wall sections 122 on the metallic frame 121. These, however, are provided with projecting parts 126 which are also tongue-shaped in place of the stamped out tongues 24. In producing the case 10 these projecting parts 126 are first bent off from the enlarged channel wall sections 122 about perpendicular thereto, as the left-hand projecting part as shown in Fig. 6, then the wall section extension 107' and the strap extension 117' provided with corresponding slots 125; are 15 secured on the projecting parts 126, whereupon the projecting parts are bent approximately into the plane of the. enlarged channel wall sections 122, so that. the. wall section extension 107' and the strap extension 117' are secured to the cap 114. 20

In the third example according to Figs. 9, 10, 11 only the manner of fastening of the wall section 7 and the strap 17 to the cap 14 is different from the first example. Therefore, all parts of the case not showing this variation are marked by corresponding reference numbers as 25 in. Figs. 1 to 5, however, each number is in the two hundreds.

In this third example of design there are also provided enlarged inner channel wall sections 222 on the metallic frame 221. These enlarged channel wall sections, how- 30 ever, show on each at least two pins 228, which may be fixed by riveting, by way of example, in place of stamped out tongues 24 or projecting parts 126. The extension 217' of the strap 217 and the extension 207' of the. wall section 207 are provided with holes, by means of which 35 they are secured on the pins 228. Thereafter the pins 22.8 have been provided with a rivet head 228' at their ends so that a solid connection between the wall section extension 207' and the strap extension 217', on the one hand, and the cap 214, on the other hand, has been 40 obtained.
