GARMENT DISPLAY POCKET

This invention relates to garments and particularly jackets, coats or shirts having patch pockets, and in particular a patch pocket having an opening through the outer wall with an intermediate partition on the inside of the material 5 forming the wall of the pocket forming a small auxiliary pocket, whereby an emblem, article, or other piece of material in the auxiliary pocket is displayed through the opening in the wall of the pocket and is separated from the body portion 10 of the pocket in which a handkerchief or other article may be positioned.

The purpose of this invention is to provide means for displaying insignia such as used by servicemen, clubs and other organizations with- 15 out permanently attaching, such as by stitching the insignia to the garment, thereby making it possible to readily remove the insignia when the garment is changed or when the garment is washed or cleaned. 20

Various organizations require that emblems or other insignia be attached by stitching to different parts of garments and when the garment is changed or washed or cleaned it is necessary to remove the emblem or other insignia from one 25 garment and attach it to another.- With this thought in mind this invention contemplates a comparatively small auxiliary pocket preferably formed against the inner surface of the outer wall of a pocket whereby an insigne or emblem θθ positioned in the auxiliary pocket may be displayed through an opening in the outer wall of the pocket.

The object of this invention is, therefore, to provide means for displaying emblems or other „_ginsignia through the wall of a pocket of a garment.

Another object of the invention is to provide insignia displaying means in a pocket of a garment without interfering with the conventional use of the pocket.

A further object of the invention is to provide a garment having insignia or emblem displaying means in a pocket thereof in which the garment is of a simple and economical construction.

With these and other objects and advantages in view the invention embodies a piece of material adapted to form the outer wall of a pocket, preferably of the patch pocket type in which a layer of material is stitched to the inner surface go of the wall of the pocket forming a comparatively small auxiliary pocket and in which the piece of material forming the wall of the pocket is provided with an opening for displaying objects in said auxiliary pocket. gg

Other features and advantages of the invention will appear from the following description taken in connection with the drawing, wherein:

Figure 1 is a front elevational view illustrating the improved emblem or insignia displaying pocket showing the pocket on the outer surface of a garment and with parts of the garment broken away.

Figure 2 is a vertical section through the pocket and adjoining portion of the garment taken on line 2—2 of Fig. 1.

Figure 3 is a sectional plan through the garment with the pocket on the outer face thereof taken on line 3—3 of Fig. 1.

Figure 4 is a detail showing an exploded view wherein the insert on which the emblem or insigne is positioned is withdrawn from the auxiliary pocket.

Figure 5 is an elevational view looking toward the inner surface of the outer wall of the pocket and showing the auxiliary pocket stitched to the outer wall of the pocket.

Figure 6 is a detail showing another exploded view wherein an insert in the form of a layer of material is withdrawn from an auxiliary pocket on the inner surface of the outer wall of a pocket.

Referring now to the drawing wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts the improved display pocket of this invention includes an outer wall 10 having an opening 11 therein and an inner panel or layer of material 12 positioned on the inner surface of the outer wall.

The outer wall or panel 10 with the inner panel 12 on the inner surface and with the upper end of the panel 12 open forms a small auxiliary pocket and an emblem, as indicated by the numeral 14 may be inserted in the inner or auxiliary pocket formed by the panel 12 whereby the outer face of the emblem i4 is displayed through the opening II in the outer wall or panel 10.

It will be understood that the large pocket and also the auxiliary or small pocket may be formed by suitable means however, in the design shown the outer panel or wall io is provided with a lining 15 and the side and lower edges of the panel are turned, as illustrated in Figs. 2 and 3 whereby the edges are stitched to a wall i 6 of a garment by stitches 17. By the same means an inturned edge i8 is provided around the opening 11 with said inturned edge stitched to the adjoining edge of the lining 15. In this design the side and lower edges, as indicated by the nu2,671,902 meral 19, of the small panel 12 are secured to the lining 15 by stitches 20 whereby in normal use the panel 12 will be pressed snugly against the inner surface of the outer wall of the pocket and the body of the pocket is adapted to be used for a handkerchief or other articles in the usual manner. The thickness of the materials is exaggerated for the purpose of illustration in Fig. 3, however, it will be understood that the com( paratively- thin &gt; panel' 1-2 will be nested against \ the inner surface of the wall 10 so that it will not interfere with regular use of the pocket.

I In the design shown the upper edge of the outer wall 10 of the pocket is also; turned; inwardly providing an inturned strip 2.1 which is. secured to the upper edge of the lining^- 15 with stitches 22. The panel 12 may: also; be provided: with an inturned upper edge 23 if desired.

With the parts formed in this manner an emblem, insignia, or a layer, of material of a color different from, that of. the garment or outer wall of: the. pocket may. be placed in the auxiliary pocket whereby it will· be. displayed through; the opening II in the outer wall. 10' and this piece of: material, emblem, or the. like may be withdrawn; and: replaced or otherwise changed as may bedesired.

It will be understood that modifications, within the scope of the appended claim, may be made in; the design and. arrangement of the device without departing from the spirit, of the invention.
